Today we’d like to introduce you to Yoga For Justice SD. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Yoga for Justice was originally started in response to the social injustices in 2020 and the Black Lives Matters protests. There was an overwhelming need to take action as the world collectively called out for the reform of broken systems. The unity of this uprising seemed to finally acknowledge that the problems of the world belong to us all.
Yoga for Justice was formed to provide a community for people to voice dissent in another way, for us to go inward, and promote change within ourselves, therefore promoting change in the world.
Each month Yoga for Justice has been honored to collaborate with organizations that provide services to our most impacted neighbors and friends. Raising funds to bring some relief to the lives of people who are struggling the most.
We have been blessed to help people access the food, shelter, and medication they need to survive. We have been honored to help contribute to the legal teams of those who are fighting on the right side of justice. We have been steadfast in raising awareness of the abuse, neglect, and addictions that plague us, as a society. We would like to continue to spread this love and healing by practicing yoga asanas, and breathwork sessions, and providing other wellness workshops within these communities in pain. We believe our service will be even more impactful and long-lasting in doing so.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
After building a growing following in 2020, Yoga For Justice found a need to pause its offerings in 2021 as the programming became unsustainable financially for its founders. We became concerned that it would be difficult to get our community on track after such a long hiatus, but returned in September 2022 with a renewed vision and plans to establish our project as a 501c3 in 2023.
Yoga for Justice is committed to a vision of a more compassionate and harmonious world. We believe that the gifts of peace and presence should be shared by all and not reserved for those who have financial access to expensive materials and private instruction. By accessing grants and larger donations directly, Yoga For Justice will be able to expand its reach by bringing this powerful medicine into communities most in need.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

YOGA FOR JUSTICE…
Yoga for justice is planting a seed for a huge social justice shift towards a better humanity. We have been made aware of the need for a course shift in our fellow humans’ love and compassion and we are taking action. Today it is a small local yoga class, tomorrow it is a global movement towards true brother and sisterhood.
MISSION & VISION
Yoga For Justice SD raises awareness of issues that affect our humanity through a series of yoga classes, wellness-based workshops & educational experiences
Each month the donations offered by participants benefit organizations devoted to creating positive change on a local, national, & global level
Yoga For Justice SD will continually expand its reach & impact on social justice issues through collaboration with organizations that share a more compassionate and harmonious vision for the world
Yoga For Justice SD will continually make yoga accessible to communities that are underserved and can benefit from yoga healing modules
What do you think about happiness?
Feeling connected brings us joy! Yoga is a powerful medicine that allows us to feel connected in a world where so many feel isolated and alone. A way to bring balance in a world where both resources and oppression are dispersed so unevenly. Yoga allows us to connect to our breath, our intuition, and to each other. Through these connections, we build strength and awareness and naturally strive to grow together.
We would love to empower people to invest in and love themselves and thereby experience healing through yoga.
The expansion of the movement occurs naturally as more set out on this path of healing and connectedness. The first step is showing up and seeing each human as valuable, and we are all connected. Through our suffering and through our love.
