Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Chang.
Aaron, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I spent 25 years as the Senior Photographer at Surfing magazine specializing in high action water sports photography and exotic travel stories. I traveled globally to over 50 countries and worked for dozens of high profile clients and international publications. In 2008, I opening my first gallery in Solana Beach featuring ocean themed images presented in a ground breaking new presentation process of high resolution photographic prints, face mounted to acrylic. By working diligently to make our gallery an asset to our clients we reinvented the art buying process, eliminating pretense and making the client experience of purchasing art enjoyable and fun. We pioneered the virtual mockup where we can show the desired art on our clients’ walls, prior to purchase, using Photoshop to create life-like mockups of the art on the clients’ wall. Plus, we custom make the art to fit the wall perfectly. This experience has caused our clients to vote the Aaron Chang Ocean Art Galleries “Best Of San Diego” for 8 years running. We also serve the business community with a similar process winning us some very prestigious bids in 2017. The San Diego Tourism Authority has appointed me San Diego’s Ambassador of the Arts. Recently sponsored by Sony cameras, I am shooting prolifically utilizing the latest photographic technology to produce ultra high resolution images for my new releases.
Has it been a smooth road?
As with any new business, marketing becomes the challenge. We have invested our capital in developing our online presence and becoming as digitally self-reliant as possible. My wife and business partner, Erika, has been doing an impressive job with this and we are seeing a growing online community engaged in our business. One of our core marketing tenets has been to be an asset to our community. We host events in our galleries regularly featuring fundraisers and charities, local schools, and business functions and special events for local businesses. I’m happy to say that through a creative 50/50 program I have created we have been able to personally assist dozen of charities with their fundraising efforts in 2017.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Aaron Chang Ocean Art Galleries – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
While I do feature photographic art from all over the world, I specialize in definitive fine art images of local San Diego scenery. Coming from an action sports back ground, I am accustomed to capturing high speed fleeting moments in high resolution. Many of the water and wave images featured in the galleries are extreme moments in time frozen in a photograph that can never be seen again. Unlike conventional landscape photography, many of the images I take can never be repeated or copied.
I am most proud of my team. Erika and I are very pleased with each and every one of our employees. We all work together to make the experience of purchasing art a pleasant and exciting process. By the numerous reports I receive from those who have experienced the galleries, I can say we are succeeding in being the asset to the community we aspire to be.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I think San Diego is one of the most beautiful ocean based communities in the world. It offers so many distinct and unique ocean encounters, all with the convenience and amenities of a major modern metropolis. As an artist, I will never run short of interesting subject matter.
Traffic is my least favorite thing about San Diego.
