Meet Adriana Brito Hulst of University Heigths

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Brito Hulst.

Hi Adriana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m originally from Brazil and always wanted to know about new cultures and different countries. I started to study English, and I realized that the best way to learn the language is by living the culture. I had the opportunity to come to the USA in 2017. I came to do an exchange program (Au Pair) in which I had the opportunity to live in NYC with an amazing family and I took care of two amazing kids. I also had the opportunity to study English at Columbia University as well as Fashion design at Parsons, one of the best schools for fashion in NYC. Everything I lived and learned in NYC was a great experience.

Just before I finished my classes, my boyfriend, now husband, whom I met in Brazil a couple of years previous, asked me to marry him… I said yes! After we got married, I moved to San Diego. At first, it was a little difficult for me to adapt here without a lot of friends, and the vibe was totally different from NYC. It was then that I had the idea to create Glow Girl SD, a community to meet new digital influencers and creative people who are also passionate about fashion just like me. I started doing some events and meeting amazing people, but then the pandemic started, and everything stopped.

Now I still work with my social media and plan to keep doing new events and bringing my own personal fashion vibe to San Diego. I have also been working on and intend to launch my fashion brand in the near future. Every day I just work hard to accomplish my objectives and I hope I can continue to inspire and help people.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Everything has been mostly smooth. Although the language and culture is sometimes still different for me but every day I’m learning more and more and doing my best. I have always been pretty independent. Growing up on a farm in rural Brazil has many challenges, so I learned to work hard and learn to challenge myself; it’s helped me prepare for life in many ways.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a digital creator and fashion influencer, and I have been working with so many amazing brands and having a great time learning and connecting with other fashion lovers. My passion is fashion, so I use it to inspire and help people style clothes and hopefully to be confident in themselves. I love to share about lifestyle and beauty tips and I like to be inspired by other influencers and social content.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Be yourself and be open to meet and listen to other people’s experiences. It can be online or in person. There are many opportunities for networking. For me, online has been the best way to meet and connect with people. It’s always important to engage with your audience.
