Meet Adriana Ugalde of Quetzalli Skin Care in Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Ugalde.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My name is Adriana Ugalde, originally from Michoacán, Mexico. I have always been very restless and creative. I began to observe how the benefits of plants were very effective. I grew up in a very traditional Mexican family surrounded by home remedies for all different ailments. Always observing my grandmother and my mother who made different and very effective remedies with plants and other natural ingredients. Today, I continue using my family’s homemade remedies with my family.

I continued using ingredients from my Aztec and Mayan ancestors because I discovered that they were great for overall health. This inspired me to create my own non toxic & healthy skincare & cosmetics line. People would compliment my skin wherever I went. They wanted me to make them my skincare products to purchase. And this is how my dream came true.

Today, I am very grateful, with this country that has opened many doors, and that has given me the opportunity to develop and present Quetzalli Skin Care, a product created and developed here in the United States, but with knowledge of customs and Mexican secrets. And of course, based on a large market study, research and technical development, I have had the fortune and opportunity to bring this product to all kinds of people and levels.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Creating a formula with natural ingredients replacing toxic ingredients to establish the formulas was one of my biggest obstacles. For example, there are waxes that are toxic and help that a formula is established and with natural ingredients sometimes does not do the same effect. But with my research and creativity I had to find non-toxic ingredients to mix and obtain the same effect and make a good, non-toxic formula. Finding authentic natural ingredients was another one of my biggest struggles.

It has been a long but comforting, risky but rewarding journey, the creation of Quetzalli Skin Care, as a great option for skincare and cosmetics. It has been a great challenge, but thanks to perseverance and research, in the properties of each of our chosen ingredients. Today we are satisfied with the achievements and we deliver an integral, natural product with quality.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am the proud Founder and Owner of Quetzalli Skin Care as well as a licensed Esthetician. I also studied European Organic Cosmetics to learn more about the industry. Quetzalli (kets_AH_lee) is an Aztec and Mayan name that means something beautiful. I also create the formulas for all my products following the Whole Foods Market guidelines for Premium Body Care Unacceptable Ingredients. I make all my products with love at my laboratory.

One day I asked myself why my Aztec and Mayan ancestors were so healthy and strong? Then I began to investigate their diet and what they used to be vigorously. I was so excited to see the benefits of each food and ingredient they used; so many antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. I then decided to use them in my formulas. I have always understood how important it is to take care of our skin and to be aware of the products we use daily, where some of them consequently affect our health and well-being.

I saw that the ingredients used by our ancestors are really nutritious, natural and pure which inspired me to use their secrets in my formulas and using those ingredients as the main ingredients in my line such as cactus nopal, pumpkin, jamaica rose, agave nectar, chia and many more and I feel that these ingredients are not commonly used in products sold in the United States.

I am proud to have created an effective and non toxic product which will not harm anyone or the environment and at the same time represent and share my culture and heritage.

What were you like growing up?
Since I was a child, I was always very restless and creative. Always talking with the people and learning from their talks and their experiences. I grew up in a candy making Mexican family, in a giant kitchen. I have always liked cooking, pastries, sweets, cakes, crafts, decoration, design of many things. Simply creative. The creation of my skincare creams was like something from the kitchen.

I love music and dancing, to be happy, I love natural beauty, animals, the universe, everything that is the sky, the moon, the sun, the stars, to feel peace and tranquility. Always smile and share the best of me.

I never stop learning. There is always something new to learn from all people and situations. If you have a dream, fight for it until you achieve it. Nothing is impossible. XO
