Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Brachvogel.
Alexa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved to San Diego for college in 2012, and I got great experience during school while working in various marketing and sales positions. After graduating from USD with a BBA in International Business and a BA in Spanish, I pursued supplementary certifications in search engine optimization, user experience design, and the Google Business Suite programs (Ads, Analytics, Search Console, etc.).
I continued working in digital marketing after graduation and picked up consulting projects on the side over the course of a few years. I decided to start my own digital marketing agency using knowledge and skills from previous positions, certifications, and consulting experience.
I started Blüm Agency in September 2018 to help small and medium-sized businesses bloom while providing an opportunity for women in creative professions to work remotely and get paid fair wages. While it’s a small agency right now, the goal is to grow Blüm Agency into a global workforce of remote female creative professionals, empowered to continue learning and working, without compromising personal relationships or professional trajectory.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
For me, being an entrepreneur has been easier than working for other established businesses, even with the fluctuations inherent in the consulting sales cycle. The largest struggle of starting this business was leaving a steady job to launch into the world of full-time consulting.
I recently came across the term “imposter syndrome,” and it sums up the experience of starting a business perfectly. While I’m confident in my experience and expertise when it comes to digital marketing, there’s a voice of self-doubt that can have a big impact on my confidence when I’m preparing projects or presented with challenging obstacles.
Although there have been bumps along the way, I’m committed to learning and growing my own business!
Please tell us about Blüm Agency.
Blüm Agency is a full-service digital marketing agency. We specialize in data-driven optimizations for web design, SEO, content strategy, and digital marketing campaigns. I think our mission and vision are the primary factors that set us apart from other digital agencies.
We also aim to support a segment of the market that’s often left out by traditional agencies because of budget constraints. We want to make digital marketing affordable for companies of all sizes, but especially for small and medium-sized businesses who are just starting out or want additional resources to build great marketing campaigns.
To be the leading digital marketing agency and resource for small and medium-sized businesses by curating a vetted network of creative professionals.
To employ a global community of highly qualified creatives empowering each other to grow thriving communities and the next generation of brands.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I think there’s always an opportunity to ask more questions. So many people are willing to help and have valuable advice to share if you ask the right questions. That being said, I wouldn’t change any of the experiences that led me to this point because they gave me the passion to start my own company. I feel very grateful to have ended up where I am today.
