Meet Alexandra AséOya

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra AséOya.

Alexandra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I always had a passion for creation and innovative ideas. As a child growing up in Atlanta, Ga I remember loving nothing more than my arts & crafts, learning/exploring and technology and business relations (very true). Throughout the years, I had formed a unique version of self-expression and learning to adapt to unfamiliar conditions.

After moving to San Diego three years ago, I found myself in a place where I never wanted to be unemployed, evicted and 2,200 miles away from everyone I know. This was my parent’s worst nightmare and my anxiety cranking up at max speed and power because I knew that it was my choice to move it was my choice to make a change. So, I tried to create a business with the degree that I attempted to obtain… needless to say that did not work. In effort to feel purpose, I decided to ask if journalism services were needed to community figure Tau Baraka of The World Famous Imperial Barbershop, LLC (TWFIB) and what he needed was much more.

His partner Dr. Arenda Wilson of Transition Care, Hair Loss Clinic and TWFIB needed a website and a creative jolt to the future and modern-day technology. Since then I have created their new Logo, designed their website, and given their personal portfolios a fresh look, it was then I realized I gifted them with new energy in branding. I just created a job for myself that incorporates the things that I love with helping people integrate art into their business. I have really been blessed that people like what I have to offer. With my cinematography experience, working in the film industry in Atlanta for 13 years and my lifetime theatre discipline, I create cinematic and euphoric photos, videos, graphics, and websites.

Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all, it has not been easy, I literally worked for $40 a day for months just to prove myself as worthy enough to be given an opportunity. Bills were cut off, my 30th birthday came around and I had no money, and all I knew was that I was working so hard. I couldn’t understand why it was not paying off, even though I had faith, I couldn’t see and I would cry, but failure was not an option anymore. Any money I make I put it back into my business, I’d even go hungry some nights because I spent money to provide THE BEST service for my clients.

I had to learn how to value myself and how being a good person, reliable, dedicated and driven may not be the most glamorous job, but it was worth it. I found myself being humbled by the process of success and even now, I’m not well off financially, but I am judging my successes in things non-monetary. I am truly grateful to San Diego for bringing out a stronger version of myself.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
The Naturally Famous Brand is a brand and branding company, I like to focus on aesthetics and consumer-based relations. I specialize in photography, videography, and aesthetic designs. I have adapted the term Ontological Architect after, honorable mention, Ontological Architect Dimitri Snowden and it best describes what the experience is like to create with me. I am most proud of my company from genuinely starting from nothing and growing bigger and better daily.

I don’t know what sets me apart from others, I don’t look over to see what other people are doing. I try to be genuine to who I am and I stay in my lane because I do that, people love what I have to offer. I don’t do it alone either, I know my strengths and weaknesses and my parents (William Phillips and Cynthia Rocker) support me through everything from Atlanta Georgia and always gave been my biggest support system.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I recommend San Diego to people who want to be an entrepreneur and is ready financially to start upon arrival. San Diego has a great way of being very focused on community and community-based enterprise which can be a double-edged sword when you are a transient. On one hand, it can be extremely difficult to penetrate a group of people and ask them for business and not expect some push back and on the other hand, if you are genuine and consistent there are rewards for that. The only thing I believe the city needs to improve on is being more genuinely open to people who differ from us, we as humans sometimes fail to realize that it is our differences that make the difference. Although, I can say people are definitely proud to be here and from here and that’s mad cool.
