Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Cicala.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Hi! I am the co-founder of Together for Better Events. I was born and raised in Delaware County, Pennsylvania (right outside of Philly). I graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Communications. WE ARE! I have known from a young age I wanted to be an event coordinator.
Adrian and I decided to leave our jobs in hospitality on the East Coast and move to San Diego, California. We packed up our car with everything we owned and drove across the country leaving behind friends and family. When we arrived in San Diego, we spent over a week living out of our car and hotels until we could find an apartment. The experience of moving to a place you’re unfamiliar with and not having family or friends to lean on is so rewarding. We have both grown so much as individuals and as a couple.
It has always been a dream of mine to start my own coordinating business, and the doors started to open when we moved to San Diego. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support of so many vendors in Southern California.
Please tell us about your art.
We are not your typical coordinators. We are a male and female couple who are passionate about living life through laughter and love and bring that to our couples. When it came time to develop our branding we knew we didn’t want to be like other coordinators in Southern California. We want to break the mold of “traditional” planning. Most wedding planners are solo and female which can typically leave the conversation one-sided. You will often hear grooms saying, “whatever my fiance says is fine. Just tell me when I have to be there”. We want our brides and grooms to both feel included. This day is just as special to the groom as it is to the bride. Your wedding day should be a celebration of your love for one another and your journey together.
The name of our company is inspired by a short inspirational story Adrian introduced me to, Together is Better by Simon Sinek. This short story inspired us to help others and discover our own courage. Life is about choices. Simon Sinek says there is one choice that affects how we feel about our journey: Do we go alone or do we go together? Our couples have chosen to go Together, for Better.
Your wedding day is a celebration of your love for one another. We will make the planning process fun and enjoyable, as it should be. That is why our first meeting usually begins by grabbing drinks and getting to know our couples story, their likes, dislikes, and dreams. Having a coordinator on the day of your wedding is one of the most important things that most couples regret not having in the end. Your wedding day will fly by so fast. Don’t allow things like seating charts, vendor arrival, ceremony procession, etc. distract you from enjoying every moment of this day. You can count on us to deliver a seamless experience for you and your guests.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
My advice to anyone is always stay true to yourself, Live life to the fullest, Laugh as often as possible, and Love as much as you can.
