Meet Alexis Williams of The Center for Massage and Holistic Therapy in Sorrento Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Williams.

Alexis, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The Center for Massage and Holistic Therapy was founded in 1992. I was 33 years old, and the proud mother of two sons. I had just graduated from my training as a Holistic Health Practitioner, and was dedicated to helping people obtain optimal health through the healing arts.

Back then the office didn’t have Internet. All of our appointments were made on a large old-fashioned Barber’s scheduling book with pencil and eraser. I didn’t even have a cell phone. At the time, The Center for Massage was truly a pioneer, as massage had yet to become mainstream. The simple philosophy of the Center was, and still is, to support well-being by providing the highest quality massage therapy possible.

The business model has always been straight-forward, hands-on, and relationship focused. It is the emphasis on relationships that sets the Center for Massage apart. This allows for the client to build a working relationship and trust with their therapist, which is vital for holistic care. We cater to all walks of life; young professionals, expecting mothers, couples, athletes, and more. Our youngest client is a 14 year old competitive swimmer and our oldest is a wonderful 80 year old woman who has been a client of the center for over a decade. It has been exceptionally gratifying to work with clients who in many cases had never received massage therapy before. The Center for Massage has been fortunate to maintain its 25 years of success due to the loyalty of our community and our amazing therapists.

In 2010, I began an in depth study of mindfulness practice, with Jon Kabat-Zinn, obtaining my teaching practicum from the UCSD Center for Mindfulness. Now, after 25 years as a massage therapist, I have stepped aside to dedicate my time to assisting people on their path to well-being through mindfulness practice and coaching. I now focus on assisting individuals to develop their own sense of calm, balance, and resilience. After having the privilege of working with so many wonderful people, and through my own challenges, it is my deep belief that we all have an innate capacity to develop wholeness in body, mind, and spirit through discovering our inner truth.
