Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia and Joseph DiMola.
Alicia and Joseph, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Our story began here in San Diego, we both share a love for fitness and living a healthy lifestyle. I (Alicia) have always had a love for yoga starting from back in high school when it helped me come back from a severe knee injury and later in life helped with the management of stress. Joe has always been rooted in fitness, beginning back to pee wee football through being drafted into the NFL and eventually leading to him owning his successful gym in Las Vegas. In the Fall of 2017, I heeded the calling of my dharma and became a certified yoga instructor. My passion for the practice grew exponentially.
In the Spring of 2018, I was laid off from her government job. I came home that day from work feeling defeated and nervous to share the news with my husband Joe that I had just lost my job. The minute I told him and I braced for his reaction and instead of a negative response, I was met with a very calm cool and collected one. I’ll never forget the words that came out of his mouth next, he said: “I think it’s time to look into opening our yoga studio”. I’m fairly certain my jaw hit the floor when I heard that. After some negotiations, Joe and I were able to take over a space that was once a yoga studio that I had been employed at in La Jolla. We then needed a name. Anyone who’s ever started up their own business knows how hard it is to choose the right name. I wracked my brain, incessantly jotting down little ideas on pieces of paper or a notebook and nothing could come to mind. I was frustrated because it had to be perfect, it had to show our love and passion for fitness and wellness. That’s when Joe, suave as ever said “How about Reverence Yoga?”, I about fainted. He managed to pick the perfect name in seconds, my heart sank in my check and that was the moment Reverence Yoga was born.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Owning a business is a journey. We’ve learned a lot along the way in this short time. Some of the struggles have been figuring out what styles of yoga to offer and when. We’ve listened to our clients and have managed to put together a great variety of classes with a wonderful and strong team of instructors. We are truly blessed and grateful to have such a talented team.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Reverence is an all inclusive environment for all levels and ages of students. With personal attention from instructors who want to build a relationship and encourage your continued growth. We specialize in Hatha, Vinyasa, Restorative and Yin styles of yoga. Also, we offer Reiki energy healings and training as well as massage. What separates us from others is we pride ourselves in removing the ego from the practice and returning to the humble roots of yoga by providing a peaceful setting and in the process attaining our goal of helping others in their wellness journey.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
We define success by the building of our community and seeing both physical and mental growth in our students that arise from the space the instructors give to make room for them to feel safe to explore and push their limits.
