Meet Alisha Leytem of Zen Babe in Mission Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alisha Leytem.

Alisha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I knew that I’ve always wanted to help people, but wasn’t exactly sure what that looked like. After getting my college degrees in Entrepreneurship and Communication Studies shortly after the recession, I moved hundreds of miles away from home with my new husband to discover I was unable to find work. To pass the time, I focused on my passion project of growing a healthy living blog and becoming both a certified yoga teacher and a certified wellness coach. It was during this time of my darkest hour that my yoga, spirituality, wellness and personal development studies saved me. I found inner peace and discovered my purpose – to help others experience the freedom that comes from self-healing and authenticity.

During this time, my blog evolved into teaching the healing tools that had been helping me by creating online programs, hosting in-person workshops and working with private clients. Our community began to grow and Zen Babe was born. As I began exploring the world of entrepreneurship, my husband and I decided to take the leap and move from Ohio to San Diego with nothing more than what we could fit in our car in early 2016.

After spending a couple of years focusing on the online side of my business, I realized how much I was not only missing in-person connections and relationships but how necessary it is for a person’s healing and growth journey to attend live events. In 2018 I hosted my first Zen Babe Healing Retreat, and that was the moment that our vision and focus grew.

Today we focus on serving women all over the world with our online programs, private coaching, and in-person Zen Babe Retreats and Workshops. Our retreats are shifting even more recently, as all ZB Retreats are now being held in Lake Arrowhead, CA (2 hours north of San Diego) focusing on self-healing with nature, personal development, and empowerment.

Has it been a smooth road?
This journey has not been an easy one. It’s taken years of focus, ups and downs, tons of risk and a lot of faith. There have been so many moments of doubt, failure and comparison that I almost threw in the towel and called it quits.

I’ve had people question what I’m doing.
I’ve had launches that flopped.
I’ve had projects that I spent years on that I ended up scrapping.
I’ve done so much work behind the scenes – so many late nights, saying no to vacations and going out, and long days at my desk that doesn’t get posted online.
I bet on myself and hired mentors, coaches and took courses when I didn’t have the money.
I’ve had to take risks that many wouldn’t do.

I would tell anyone going after a big goal or dream to keep going and not to be afraid to make mistakes along the way. We all feel fear when we are expanding and doing things we’ve never done before. Like my Dad always says, “fear is excitement in disguise.” Do the inner work…. the real work that is required to step into your next level.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a transformational coach for women and couples with a focus on practices that reclaim the mind, body and spirit. Through my workshops, retreats, private coaching and online courses, I teach on the journey of self-healing and personal empowerment.

What we are known for and what I’m the most proud of as a company is our Zen Babe Mountain Healing Retreats that all take place in Lake Arrowhead, California. These retreats are transformational experiences with a foundation on the healing nature of the mountain to help people reduce their stress, ground in a fast-paced world, and open their hearts to healing. Whether someone is looking for a weekend getaway to recharge and renew or looking to have a profound experience, we offer it.

Most recently, I have been hosting VIP days and private coaching for my Power Couples Coaching program. Together with my husband and business partner, Michael Leytem of Catching Leadership, we have created a coaching program to help other couples who have big goals and a desire to accomplish them together as a team. This program includes our P.O.W.E.R. Couple assessment, private calls, group calls and a VIP day. This year we will be opening up more spots for a handful of couples to work with us.

I am devoted to serving and helping create a ripple of healing and good in the world, one retreat and couple at a time.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes! San Diego is an incredible place for personal development businesses. The people are eager to try new things, work on themselves and have fun while doing it. It’s a great place to network and build real, authentic relationships with others. I would recommend anyone just starting out in the city to get out there and meet new people without an agenda. Focus on relationships first and the rest will come. Don’t forget to have fun!
