Meet Allyson Golden

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allyson Golden.

Allyson, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I created Words Are Golden (@wordsaregolden) as a way to share the digital art that I was creating and to use words to inspire others. One day, I wanted to have a new hobby, I picked up my husband’s iPad and a stylus we had in our home, and I started to create on Adobe Sketch. I then started to use an app called procreate to create all of my art. Once I realized how much I loved it, I started an Instagram page to share my art with close friends last August. People were then wanting to purchase my art as prints. After a few months, I decided to create an Etsy page to sell the prints that I was creating. The Instagram started growing slowly which was exciting. It was nothing I had ever envisioned for my art and words. My deepest desire for it was for people to be inspired by my words and art. Words are SO important and I believe in seeing uplifting words on the daily. I launched my website/blog last July 5th and I am so excited to see where it leads!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am also a full time pediatric nurse, so at times it can be really hard to balance my time and mental capacity. I have had to take a few small breaks to just reset and rest. There were also times when I had a lot of Esty orders and wasn’t sure how to manage the time of making the art pieces as well as still being a full time night shift nurse. It all ended up working out and I was able to get orders out on time, but it was a little stressful. I am now not focusing as much on my Esty store, but launched my website and blog last July 5th where I will be putting more of my focus now. The Esty store is still available and will be updated periodically, but my writing and art is where my main focus will be!

Words Are Golden – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I create art/quotes with inspiring and faith-based messages on them. Along with the art piece I post on Instagram, I share inspiring and up-lifting words in my writing. For a while I was also creating custom digital family portraits that people loved and were purchasing. It was so cool to see how many people wanted a portrait done of their family or with their friends. While I do love doing portraits, right now I am focusing on getting my website and blog launched, so I have taken a break from creating portraits. I am proud of sticking with this new hobby of mine and being vulnerable in sharing my art and words. It has taken me a while to find my style, but now that I have found it, creating is SO fun.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I don’t know if I have one specific memory that is my favorite, but my favorite thing we did when I was a child was take many family trips to Mammoth Mountain. It is my favorite place in the fall, summer and winter. I have many great memories there with my family and I believe it is where my love for the outdoors started. Now the outdoors is where I get a lot of my inspiration for my art and words!
