Today we’d like to introduce you to ALPHA.
Alpha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Since I was young, I would always be drawing on everything in sight as I create characters and storylines non-stop. My brothers would always play music around me. Everything from Outkast “ATLiens” to “Diplomatic Immunity” by Dipset. As addicting as those sultry, melodic, and bass-heavy records were, I’d be hard press not to walk around the house singing “Me and you. Your mama and yo’ cousin too” while rocking a bandanna on my head like I’m Juelz Santana all at the age of five. From singing in the church choir with my mother to jamming out to funk and soul records with my father, I begin to independently find music on my own at the start of high school. From watching 106 & Park every day after school and continuously looping my first bought album, “Attention Deficit” by Wale, I knew this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. With a healthy dose of passion, persistence, and growing pains, I’m able to pen all my emotions, creativity, and real-life events within my music; always giving the listener something to enjoy and leave with at the end of the day.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This journey has been everything but smooth, but me and my best friend Mack 11 have a saying, “You can’t fly without a little bit of turbulence.” Many of the struggles came from my ignorance of what being a musician truly entailed, along with balancing the undergrad/post-graduate life with a steady maturation into my twenty-somethings. Since I began rapping, all I wanted to do was simply making the best music I possibly can and always have fun with it, but me not knowing enough about the business side of things only gave me more to learn. Fortunate for me, I understand that learning is on the positive end of growth, only making the process more sweet than bitter.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am ALPHA; rapper, producer, recording engineer, songwriter, and an artist. I am a full-time MC, specializing in many variations of hip hop music. I am better known for my the projects and solo records I release on SoundCloud; UNTTLD (2016), 92LX (2017), and Black (2019) along with several singles from “Advil”, “Chris Wallace”, and “WNGS2” just to name a few, What I am most proud of is the quality of work that I produce, because that’s what the people deserve. I believe what sets me apart from others would be my skill set in the actual craft of rapping, giving me an advantage in adaptability, clarity, and all around wit. With that alone, the sounds will always be refreshing.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is a personal life satisfaction. It would be easy to say making a ton of money off my raps gives me the satisfaction, but that just isn’t true. Being able to have that connection with my fans every song and every performance is a true success to me.
