Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Ree.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was rescued by our family dog from drowning in the backyard pool when I was 3 years old. I think that gave me, and the canine kingdom, a very special and soulful bond. I’ve never stopped wanted to spend all my time with dogs and even talked my parents into buying a family-run pet store in Lake Tahoe that we enjoyed through my youth. In 2001, I dove deep into the studies of yoga, meditation and Ayurveda (the natural and timeless healing science of the East.) Five years later I began working for The Chopra Center for Wellbeing in Carlsbad, CA and studying directly under Dr. Deepak Chopra. I’ve served in many roles at the Center including executive leadership positions and remain a lead educator and event host/emcee. Along the way, my passion for Ayurveda, as well as dogs, merged and my truest purpose on earth was revealed to me when I noticed the dramatic improvement in the health of our foster dogs by applying the timeless techniques. Since then I’ve been sharing this knowledge to help our dogs balance through classes, consultation and in-home care.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road and my company is still very new. I can only image the path that awaits! One of the big struggles I’ve had is that my mission and teachings are very unique. Almost obscure. Learning to message and package my offerings has included a lot of trail and err.
Another challenge has been time management. An entrepreneur of a start-up is required to be quite the multi=faceted individual. The internal dialog of being ‘not good enough’ can rise its head often and strongly. I’ve had to learn countless new skills but most of all recognition that I or anyone else cannot do it all perfectly. Embrace the strengths you do have and keep swimming 😉
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I bring the timeless holistic healing system of Ayurveda to the lives of dogs and their humans. I am trained and have well over a decade of practicing and teaching Ayurveda, and then I simply found a way to adapt many of its balancing practices to the lives of dogs. I’ve spent countless hours researching natural healing modalities for dogs and have a system where I offer share the understanding with others.
It’s all about helping our animals to find their way back to their ultimate state of balance or Sama – the name of my organization. A balanced ‘being’ is a happy being. My perspective helps shine the light on the relationship between the dog and the human and give people tools to bring natural, healthy, spiritual living into both their lives.
I provide this knowledge via classes (online and live), private consultation (in person and online), and through in-home boarding & rehab services (in Vista, CA).
I’m proud to be a pioneer. My heart has always been devoted to animals and if I can help influence many of their lives for the better, then that’s a life well lived.
Everything we do sets us apart from others. There is literally no one else out there doing what Sama Dog does or offering the service we do. (at least as it appears after an endless amount of searching)
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes I think San Diego is an amazing area to start a business based on natural healing and spirituality. Open minded, animal loving people everywhere. Also, close access to LA, which is also a ripe market, is ideal.
