Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber & Nani Ames.
Hi Amber & Nani, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We started Aiga Farms back in 2020 right before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our mission with Aiga Farms Microgreens began as a passion project initially. We both grew up in Tx, and both have women in our family that carry a vivid green thumb! We are an LGBT couple, and we have adopted our 3 amazing children.
During the pandemic, school was an in and out sort of thing, shopping at the grocery story was kind of taboo, and, and it seemed like the entire world just took a pause. It was really an eye-opener. So, we took up gardening as a family-like project. We wanted to be more health-conscious, we wanted to focus on living more sustainably, and we wanted to get the kiddos to try -different veggies and herbs, all while learning at the same time.
Through our experience we found that not all healthy or organic fruits, veggies and herbs were available to EVERYONE in the community; at least not at an affordable price. We’ve set our sights on combatting just that one harvest at a time. We’re striving to provide fun to grow, great-tasting, and healthy veggies/herbs to all. Your health is your wealth, and we believe that it shouldn’t take wealth in order to have access to healthy options.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growing, learning and teaching has been great. The biggest struggle has been the pandemic. All is well now.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We’re Aiga Farms Microgreens! We’re a small farm located in Ramona, Ca. We specialize in all things microgreens, and herbs! We are most proud of our mission; what and who we are growing for.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
We’ve never really looked at things through the lens of luck. We’ve always considered all things good and bad as part of the overall bigger picture.
