Meet Anastasia Ovanessoff of Simply Stazi in La Jolla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anastasia Ovanessoff.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Anastasia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My interest for floral design began when I was in college. I attended the San Diego School of Floral Design in Carlsbad, where I got a strong foundational understanding of designing. After completing a course with the school, I had fallen in love with events- specifically the floral design aspect.

I worked in floral design for the next few years where I gained a better understanding of the industry. After some time, I decided to expand my knowledge in the field. I traveled to London and took some classes and workshops in floral and event design. I went on to work as an intern at a large floral company that caters to the city of London. I met so many amazing floral designers and event stylists.

Following my trip to London, I traveled to Australia. I took a class in Sydney that introduced me to integrating florals with desserts. It was an amazing experience. I gathered skills in European floral design and edible creativity, and I have brought my experiences and knowledge back home to San Diego.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has been an interesting road! I am blessed to have so much support and help in my life, that as I began my business and helped it evolve into what it is today, every challenge I faced I was never alone.

I have so many people around me who are business owners, marketing specialist, floral and event design experts, etc. I felt like I was never alone as I navigated the world of entrepreneurship. It was, and still is, so helpful and relieving to know that when I face my problem I will have someone that can help me overcome it.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Simply Stazi story. Tell us more about the business.
Simply Stazi is a floral and event design company. I specialize in floral arrangements and table design for weddings and social events. In this new year, I will be introducing a line of desert towers, called Simply Towers. They will be made of chocolate dipped cookies, strawberries, or macarons.

This has been an idea of mine for a while, and I am so excited to launch it. I love the world of flowers, but I have always had a sweet tooth. I think this line of dessert towers is really unique, and it definitely sets me apart from others.

As a business owner, my main goal is to always ‘wow’ people and offer something that isn’t on the market already. I think people always want to try new things, so why not give them something new! I’ve always been known for florals but I’m really excited to expand and integrate my florals into the dessert field.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
It’s really only been good luck! I didn’t rush any aspects of my business, and I didn’t market my business until I really felt ready for it. I think because I took the process slow and I didn’t jump head first into anything, I benefitted greatly.
