Meet Andrea Van De Vort

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Van De Vort.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Andrea. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was a bio-chem major in college and on the path to go to Dental School. It hit me one day that following my passion was more important than doing something that yes, I was good at, but not passionate about. I graduated early, packed up my Toyota Celica, and moved to LA where I started working as a showroom sales rep for a denim line. During that time, I met Wes, my now husband, who lived in Del Mar at that time. After spending 5 years learning the ropes of the wholesale world, I decided it was time to move down to San Diego to live with Wes, as we had been married and living in different cities for 2 years by that point. There wasn’t much of a fashion scene in San Diego at that time, so I knew that if I wanted to continue doing something I was passionate about vs. just a paycheck type of job, I would have to create my own job. There was a major void in the marketplace in San Diego for the brands and style that I knew all the girls in LA were wearing, and San Diego girls were looking for, so I took a risk and opened my boutique in Del Mar. Within the first year, we doubled the size of our store and opened our online store. 3 years later, we opened a children’s store called Mini Market by Van De Vort. We’re growing every year and having so much fun with it!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been smooth for the most part! I mean, every business has its growing pains, but we’ve been pretty lucky to have a loyal customer and international following to keep us going at full speed.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Van De Vort is a women’s clothing and lifestyle boutique. We are known for introducing new international labels as well as local labels to the San Diego fashion scene, most which are exclusive to us. We specialize in personal styling, trend forecasting, and local collaborations with like-minded businesses. I am most proud of the community that we’ve built for women of all ages to come and be a part of, whether it be local and in-store relationships, or a virtual community on social media.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There are so many things I’m proud of! The growth of our business is one, as well as the amazing group of girls that have worked/work for us. We also just hosted a charity popup shop at The Pendry hotel, and raised over $5,000 for a local Human Trafficking foundation. We donated 100% of the proceeds to the foundation, which was pretty awesome to be able to help out a cause outside of our industry.

  • Our price points range from $35-$300 depending on the brand
  • We also carry accessories and home goods/gifts that range from $15-$300
