Meet Angel Quintana of Holistic Fashionista in Mission Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Quintana.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Angel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Having always been an entrepreneur at heart, it wasn’t until my mid-twenties when I embarked on my entrepreneurial journey to follow my dreams of being a fashion designer. Upon graduating with a degree in fashion design, I moved from San Francisco to Los Angeles with a business plan, a small collection of tops and dresses, and off I went to pursue my dreams.

Being brought up in Encinitas, CA before moving to San Francisco for college, I never felt I’d follow the natural footsteps of settling down and having a family. Heck, I didn’t even want a real job. After moving to Los Angeles to follow my heart to become a fashion designer, I quickly came to learn that my dream may have been a pipe dream.

Over five years of hustling in the fashion industry, running around the streets of Los Angeles preparing for fashion show after fashion show, tradeshow after the tradeshow, lugging my rolling rack of designs from outdoor mart to outdoor mart; my dream soon turned into severe credit card debt.

I was forced to close my clothing business when I realized my dream was about to put me on the streets without a job, and penniless. With over 10 maxed credit cards and no real income to pay rent, I had to think and act fast. I posted an ad on Craigslist looking for part-time work as a bookkeeper. Seeing that bookkeeping was a skill that got me through college, it was far from my dream, but it was back to reality.

Reality turned out to be even worse than I remembered. While the freelance bookkeeping gigs were slowly crawling my out of credit card debt, my health was deteriorating in a major way. Suffering from severe panic attacks and my body is covered with psoriasis, a skin disorder I got my first year in college, my health was at an all-time low. I was crying all the time and I just couldn’t begin to imagine how this all happened. There I was being “what I thought” a responsible adult with big dreams and a college degree, only to learn that Universe had a completely different path for me.

Within a year, I moved just outside of Los Angeles to the beautiful city of Pasadena, when I decided to enroll in a natural medicine school to get my health back on track. I knew I wouldn’t be able to pursue my dreams with my health in its current state, even if I had no idea what my next dream was going to be. Over the next year, I changed how I was living my life. I took relaxing baths instead of quick showers. I ate vegetarian meals and spent most of my time reading and learning. I even started my own Youtube channel discussing what I knew about healing the body and how spirituality played a huge role in the transformational process.

In four years, I paid off my entire debt. I finally felt free again. My credit score went from 580 to 750 and my panic attacks were slowly fading away, as was my skin disorder. While I was almost ready to jump back into the entrepreneur role, I was fearful I would make the same mistakes again as a business owner. I didn’t want to use credit cards to build my dreams, so I found another route. I read more books!

Over a three year span, I had read nearly 300 books on business. From marketing and sales to branding and advertising, I was determined to unlock the formula to running a successful business. Only this time, being a fashion designer wasn’t part of this equation. I had found a new motivation that felt closer to my soul, not just my heart. My soul was showing me a mission that was bigger than me, to support holistic leaders of tomorrow. I wanted everyone to know what had helped me transform my health, get out of debt, and find my Higher Calling.

I decided to take my love for design, my education in holistic health, and my deep yearning to make a difference in the world and started Holistic Fashionista Magazine. I had combined everything that lit my soul on fire into one business that allowed me to share everything I loved, all while meeting incredible spiritual leaders and coaches along the way. The magazine became a platform for Soulpreneurs to share their incredible wisdom around all facets of life: relationships, style, beauty, holistic healing, money, business, spirituality, and so much more.

Since launching the magazine in 2012, the Universe became my biggest fan. Today, I follow my soul. However, in order to follow your soul, you must first listen to your heart. Those years in college in San Francisco where my clothing line was birthed, were the first stages of discovering my Higher Calling. My heart lead me to Los Angeles to purpose my dreams, but instead, it showed me the life lessons I needed to endure in order for my true purpose to shine through.

While the entrepreneurial journey has been a long and difficult road filled with money blues and health roadblocks, I know now I was always being guided. Sometimes, you don’t understand why the road feels so dark for so long, but when the light is shone to you, it is then everything becomes clear. I feel grateful I never gave up and I continued to search for answers. However, I learned along the way the answers are always within.

In 2017, I returned to San Diego to continue to pursue my purpose, heal deeper traumas and wounds that still resided within my energetic field, and it has been miraculous every step of the way. After 23 years of battling psoriasis, I have managed to heal my body entirely. It turns out, my ambitious nature and 30-year battle with workaholism were the main culprits. Today, I have designed a peaceful life that celebrates work-life-balance. I am a recovering workaholic who wants the improve the planet, but I will never sacrifice my body for any amount of material success or recognition because a Higher Calling isn’t about hustling, it’s about aligning to your Higher Self.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Health and extravagant credit card debt, failed business.

Holistic Fashionista – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My specialty is helping over-achievers and entrepreneurs with a strong desire to make a difference to organize their genius into a step by step system that solves an urgent problem in the marketplace, but also lights their soul on fire and creates passive and residual income so they can maintain a work-life balance.

Through Holistic Fashionista Magazine, a guide to 5th-dimensional living, I showcase Soulpreneurs who are sharing their wisdom on how to get out of 3rd dimension existence (where fear lives) and into an abundant mindset where vibrant health and deep connections are possible. The 5th dimension is also where your Higher Calling lives.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My definition of success is a feeling and has nothing to do with money. I value peace. If I am peaceful, I am successful.
