Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Garzon.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Angela. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always had an interest in photography but I discovered my love for it while in college when I took some classes as a part of my Graphic Design degree. After graduation, I got an internship with a wedding studio in San Diego and started to develop who I was as a photographer. After about 5 years of side-hustling it, I finally quit my full time office job to grow my business full time.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being in a creative profession always comes with challenges. While it’s so rewarding to create art for a living, it can also take its toll emotionally. With digital cameras available on every cell phone, and at consumer level prices and since I don’t create a utilitarian product people actually “need,” at times I’ve come across people who will laugh at my rates, put down my business, or think I’m being unreasonable. Thankfully however, I have a strong support system made up of family, friends, and clients who see the value in my work and believe in me. I’ve made it my mission to make those struggles positive by educating prospective clients about the value of professional photography and giving them a positive experience. I will never send them home with a cd filled with 200 images that all look the same. Instead, I show them the possibilities of what they could do with their portraits, and how each image can be its own unique piece of art.
Angela Garzon Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a self-proclaimed beer-loving portrait photographer in a constant state of wanderlust. I see the world in pictures and am constantly chasing dreamy light and amazing views.
As a wedding photographer, consider me your new BFF, here to support you as you plan the wedding of your dreams. I’ll fluff your dress, fix that stray hair, tell you how beautiful you look, laugh with you, cry with you, and celebrate with you on the dance floor, all with my camera firmly attached to my hand, documenting your love story.
As a family photographer, I am the BEST AUNT EVER! I’ve been told I have the voice of a Disney princess and the sense of humor of a 4-year-old, so I have no problem being silly, playing peek-a-boo with your kids, or rocking your baby to sleep.
Recently, I’ve added branding and headshot photography to my specialty. I love working with small businesses to create images that will speak to their target market and be a visual representation of who they are as a business or professional. What I love most about headshots is working with Non-models and helping them discover the self confidence in themselves and show their best self to the world.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Every time my clients tear up during when seeing their portraits always makes me feel proud and the fact that they keep coming back to me and watching their kids grow up makes me feel so blessed to do what I do. I recently participated in a collaborative photoshoot and the feedback from some of the others who participated who told me that they felt at ease with me and that I made them feel confident was huge for me.
