Meet Arturo H. Ramirez of A.H.R. Florals in Point Loma

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arturo H. Ramirez.

Arturo, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up my family always recognized me as the creative in the bunch, so whenever an opportunity arose to design or decorate, I was the one to call. Flowers came up many a time for weddings, parties, etc. Life led me down a ten-year path in the fashion industry, but flowers were always in the back of my mind.

One night, I was invited to a wine & paint night and had an incredible time (with the wine). My fine art days were behind me, and I wanted to learn a skill that actually interested me–floral design. I looked into it, and at that time those workshops just didn’t exist. Flash forward to me going to the University ‘o’ the internet (not real, please don’t look it up).

Got myself a quick lesson in the basics, gathered friends & fam, & bam. The first PINOT+PETALS was born in April of 2016. Since then, I’ve been teaching those workshops and picking up weddings & events along the way to what is now my first brick & mortar shop inside the fab En Concordia.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Working with mother nature is so different from working with thread & needle. My design education was very exact from stitch to stitch, but when it comes to literal nature you really have to learn to collaborate with the materials, work alongside them to create something beautiful rather than manipulate them. It’s actually been a beautiful lesson in life itself as my Reiki healer tells me I need to” let go of the details” haha.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about A.H.R. Florals – what should we know?
AHR Florals really didn’t start with an objective. I created something I wanted for myself, but I’m the type of person that shares his obsessions with the world so here we are haha.

While I hope I specialize in being super gorgeous, I would say that I’m actually known for being a literal clown at my workshops & my vibrant color work. I find that most people are afraid of approaching strong design because it feels too serious, too stuffy. I don’t see a reason why we can’t enjoy gorgeous, well-designed work in our lives and have a good, goofy time while we do it.

At the end of the day, we value our experiences much more than our possessions. I’m a purveyor of experiences with a side of flowers.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I value people’s time. I take every workshop, every meeting, wedding, event, etc. very seriously, despite the jokes. If you’re working with AHR Florals, you’re getting the best service, best flowers, design, and the best of me.

I have clients that have followed me from day one. They’ve been to my workshops, I’ve done their weddings, I’ve built a community, and we’re always taking new members… (and psst… we have wine…)
