Meet Aubree Fulham of Aubree Lynn Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubree Fulham.

Aubree, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Ever since I can remember, I’ve been fascinated with photographs. Especially photographs of people. As a kid, I remember sitting on the tile floor of our family room for hours sifting through shoe boxes full of old family photos and asking my parents to tell me the story behind each one. I used my dad’s film camera to document summer days with neighbors in our cul-de-sac, and won a photography contest for a black and white portrait of my best friend in high school. Fast forward a few years and I was returning home from UC Davis to spend the summer with family before applying to teaching credential programs. It was that summer that I met my now husband, Teddy. I knew he was the one from our second date, and we talked about the future pretty early on. He asked what my “dream job” was, and I kept coming back to photography. I come from a long line of 9-5’ers and I didn’t know many entrepreneurs, so the idea of starting my own business wasn’t one I shared with many. He replied, “you should go for it”, and although it took me a few weeks to commit, when I finally did, I went all in. I started shooting families and couples, first for free, then for $50, and so on. I drove and hiked all over southern California to find the best locations, taught myself manual mode on YouTube, created a logo on Microsoft Word, and through thousands of Google searches, got a website up and running. I saved inspiration photos to my phone, attended workshops, and emailed a photographer I looked up to with lots of questions. Some of the best advice I ever received was to “shoot, shoot, shoot”. And shoot, I did. That year, I worked during the day, did photoshoots in the evenings, and second-shot weddings on the weekends. Because I was living at home, I was able to invest all of my income into gear. I was hooked. In 2014, Teddy and I got married and I moved to San Diego. I worked as a nanny for one more year while building my business, and in 2015 I went full-time. I shot 30 weddings that year, and haven’t looked back since!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have to say – it’s been pretty smooth! Other than a few hard drives failing and dropping a $2k lens, I can’t say there have been many struggles that made me question if I was doing the right thing. I’m so lucky to have a husband who never stops believing in me, and to get to work with the couples I do. They are truly a joy to work with and make this job so rewarding.

Aubree Lynn Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a wedding photographer and travel all over photographing couples in an organic, romantic way. I sometimes joke, but I really do love LOVE. Learning about how my couples met, who made the first move, what they enjoy doing in their free time, who the most important people in their lives are, what kind of energy they want their wedding day to have – it lets me into their world and allows me to document their wedding day in a more sentimental, meaningful way. It’s no surprise that my background in psychology plays a huge role during photoshoots. I’m fascinated how two people meet, each with their own unique backgrounds, personalities, interests, and communication styles, and grow so close that they know they want to spend the rest of their lives together. It’s a commitment unlike any other, and I can’t help but feel constantly inspired! Love is a beautiful, powerful, and sacred thing, and I strive to display that truth in my photographs.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
We welcomed our daughter, Hazel into the world last November. Being able to work from home with her most days, while also pursuing my dreams on the weekends – I’m incredibly grateful.
