Today we’d like to introduce you to Audra René.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Audra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have loved styling hair since I can remember, and some of my earliest memories include my first wedding hairstyle, prom and homecoming formal styles, while I was still in high school. Fun fact- as a teen I said I wanted to be a hairstylist or a lawyer. I started as a receptionist at a salon at seventeen, and worked there through beauty school, assisting to learn the ropes, becoming an employee and later renting my own chair- my first step into owning my own business. I ventured truly out on my own in 2010, when I moved into my first boutique salon location. I built out the current Audra René Studio three years ago, and it feels like home.
I have had wonderful opportunities to create beauty working with inspiring creative teams on editorial work, with hundreds of brides on the most magical day of their lives, and with my incredibly supportive salon clientele as well. I didn’t think about what success meant to me when I first started in this industry, I just dove right in. Looking back on my first fifteen years in so far, I think the fact that I still love going to work, and that I cannot imagine not doing what I am doing today feels like a win to me. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to serve my clientele and create beauty.
Has it been a smooth road?
Overall, I have enjoyed the ride leading to where the business is now. Having children was definitely was a huge help for me with some of my challenges (which I think are common challenges for all entrepreneurs)- effectively setting work/personal time boundaries, streamlining my schedule, and really evaluating what is working and what doesn’t in my business.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Audra René Studio – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Audra René Studio is a private studio salon- I see one client at a time, by design, and I love the attention I can focus on the services I am providing. I also specialize in editorial and wedding hairstyling services as well. I am accepting very few new clients at this time, and I am proud that the maintaining the level of service I expect has come before servicing more clients.
Another interesting and exciting development at Audra René Studio is our newly named business venture, Jill and James Candle Company! when I opened my first location, I loved the ambiance that candles added to the atmosphere. I was going through so many candles, and there were aspects of what I found in stores that I wasn’t crazy about, so I started making my own (AR Studio candles). As I burned them in the salon, people wanted to buy them, so I casually started making a few extras, and then a few more year after year. I finally decided that the candles deserved their own name and Jill and James Candle Co was born (named after my children)!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
San Diego has so much vibrancy- bustling neighborhoods with trendy restaurants and shops, calm beachside neighborhoods that call travelers from all over… We can be to mountains, desert, or beach in an incredibly short drive. Weather rarely inhibits anything we’d like to do. In my mind, there’s only one thing that comes to mind to like least… the cost of living!
