Meet Beth Jeffrey of Beth Jeffrey Photography in Carlsbad

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Jeffrey.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.

When I was about 12 years old, I got my first Polaroid camera. It turned into a passion and gave me a focus I never knew I had. In college, I took film and photography classes as electives while earning my degree in Marine Biology. After college, I traveled across country and took pictures of everything along the way. I’m inspired by the natural light and the way it falls. I spend all of my free time taking pictures and playing with them in Photoshop. 11 years ago when my son was born, my husband got me a digital camera. My child became my number one subject. It was at a time when everything was transitioning online. I started downloading pictures to Flickr and got some traction. My husband is an avid surfer and I love action shots and all things ocean related. I was taking pictures of everything I find inspiring; the beaches, children, athletes and people started to take notice. St Topaz Restaurant in Encinitas featured me in their gallery and my business really started to grow. I’m also fortunate to have worked with several clients throughout many years. They’ve really helped to create my business and continue to inspire me. Seeing and documenting their children grow up is very special. It’s a unique experience. Photography has truly been a blessing and I’m so grateful that it allows me to express my creativity in so many different ways.

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing in life is easy and owning your own business can be especially challenging. There are ups and downs. Juggling my home life, my son’s school and sporting activities while finding the time for my clients can at times be overwhelming. Photography can also be seasonal which creates it’s own set of challenges. Sometimes, I’m super busy and at other times I’m wondering where everyone is at.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My favorite will always be capturing joyous occasions and documenting families. I specialize in newborns, portraits, children, families and weddings. I’ve also begun to expand my portfolio to include food photography and headshots. I also do packaging and product shots for websites.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
It’s the best city! With its year round sunshine and endless places to explore, there is never a shortage of great locations. San Diego is my home and I’d love to show you all some of what makes it so special.
