Meet Beth Jeffrey of Beth Jeffrey Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Jeffrey.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I was a teenager I received my first camera a polaroid. I felt whole and happy when I was taking photos with it. I always loved going through photos as well and studying them. When I was in my first year of college I took a photography/film class. I really enjoyed and felt passionate about this course.  After college, I traveled across the country twice. I also traveled up and down both coasts and took photographs of the landscapes and culture.

My next step was working for surfing magazine as a staff videographer and did some photography as well.  I also had some photos published in the years I worked there. About a year before my son was born I bought a professional film camera set and started studying more in depth.  I also studied Photoshop and started taking courses online. After my son was born I received my first Digital professional camera and my passion grew even stronger. Soon after I was practicing daily and studying photography techniques.  I published some of my work online and I was soon getting paid to do photo shoots and selling prints from my nature gallery.

I started with Flickr and I was soon building my own website and blog. It’s now been 11 years and I wouldn’t change it for the world. My clients know I put my all into every photo shoot and it never gets dull to me. My style is fine art and natural mixed together. I try to make it a great experience for each client and have a lot of fun with the children to loosen them up during the photo shoot.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road however, all the challenges have made me preserve even harder. I had a time where I almost wanted to quit, not because I didn’t love taking the photos, but because I couldn’t seem to get clients. I was also learning how to market my photography.  I can’t even pinpoint what happened to become successful it just was starting to work out. That saying don’t give up is true. I am so glad I didn’t.

Please tell us about Beth Jeffrey Photography.
I specialize in photography of Children, newborns, maternity, families, weddings, pets, food, nature and portraits of any kind. I am known for my mix of the natural and classic style of newborn, families and weddings. I am also known for my silhouette and sun flare style shots at the beach.

I am very proud of being chosen and almost published in National Geographic twice and being published on food packaging for a well-known cheese company and in a museum and hospital in San Diego. I have also been featured several places such as The Hilton hotels website for one of my silhouette photos and on several other websites. I think what sets me apart is that I am very versatile in what type and style of photographs I take. I can photograph anything from newborns to nature.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory as a child was visiting Bermuda with my family. I remember snorkeling in the caves in the clear water was so magical. I love traveling and seeing other cultures and landscapes.
