Meet Bev Cassity of Cassity Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bev Cassity.

Hi Bev, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I had been organizing Community Fairs and opening days for kid’s sports since we moved to Scripps Ranch about 22 years ago. Anything I did for this Community was always free. I approached the Principal of a new Elementary school that was being built in Scripps Ranch and brought to him my plan to create a wonderful Farmers Market that would benefit his school and the entire community. I worked with the Ellen Browning Scripps Academic Fundraising.

Partnership for over 18 years. We were asked to leave that property because they are building a huge apartment complex on our site. My husband, Mike, and I were heartbroken and we retired for almost 2 1/2 years when we were contacted by Rick Morena, owner of Newtopia Cyder. His plan was to host a huge farmers market on the industrial campus where he was located. We really got excited because we were still in the middle of the Pandemic and families were basically on.

Lockdown as far as events were concerned.

We set our Grand Opening date far enough ahead in hopes that the cancellation of special events would have ended. Rick, Mike & I all had the same goal in mind. We wanted to be that special event that would bring families from Scripps Ranch and all our surrounding areas back together again. Our timing was right on and we worked really hard finding the best of the best farmers, food chefs, artists and crafters from all over San Diego & Southern California. We have surpassed all of our expectations. Most farmer’s markets experience a slight slow down in the summer because of vacationers. Because families have been unable to travel for almost two years so many more are now traveling. Despite this, we are so excited with all we have accomplished. You cannot put a price on the smiling faces of shoppers each week sincerely thanking us for all our efforts. We have succeeded in creating “the place” on Thursdays where families and friends can meet for lunch or dinner, fantastic shopping, live music, where the adults can eat under our canopied tables or take their food into the Newtopia Cyder tasting room & eat inside, on their lit patio or on their lawn furniture. This has been a match made in heaven. The smiles I love the most are of the kids getting their faces painted or balloon art and walking around with yummy sorbet or sweet treats. We made it possible for dog owners to bring their pooches for free samples at our homemade dog treats Booth. This is our 10th week and I can truly say that this is a “Labor of Love” for the community that we live in and Truly Love.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
COVID 19 and face masking were stressful while we were in the planning stages. Permitting, with good reason, is so much slower, and our vendors, to this day, can’t find help because people are collecting unemployment and hanging out at the beach.

As you know, we’re big fans of Cassity Productions. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Until we moved to Scripps, I volunteered my time creating craft fairs and special events for my girl’s schools. When we moved to Scripps Ranch, I needed a business license to follow through with my plans to create a community farmers market. I specialized in outdoor events for families and children. I am a “one stop shop” of contacts for DJ’s, carnival rides, food booths, business sponsors, entertainers, farmers market vendors, etc. What I am most proud of is the reputation that we have gained over the years of being friendly, fair, professional and still a lot of fun. My business and my life are filled with Love and LAUGHTER!!! This year I am breast cancer free for 17 years, I have been married to the love of my life for 54 years & we have been blessed with the most fantastic kids, grandkids, family & friends. What more could I ask for??

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Probably that my husband and I are both cancer survivors.
