Meet Brad Costanzo of Costanzo Marketing Group in Mission Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Costanzo.

Brad, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After being laid off from a financial services career during the recession of 2007, I began publishing informational resources online and studying the art and science of marketing in a digital world.

I sold the publishing business in 2012 and began using the skills developed to help struggling business owners overcome frustrating revenue plateaus and inject new life into their business through innovative but proven marketing strategies. This has led to some amazing experiences in both helping companies as well as investing in or acquiring them and turning them around myself.

Now, I spend most of my time helping both businesses that sell products, professionals offering a service and thought leaders create raving fans and tribes of loyal customers. I do quite a bit of public speaking and really enjoy sharing my knowledge with those who can benefit from it, entrepreneurs and business owners.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building a successful business is rarely a smooth road and it certainly hasn’t been that way for me. My biggest challenges came from the fact that marketing and business is changing at the speed of thought and what worked yesterday might no longer work. So staying on top of trends and tactics is important, though I try to remain grounded in proven principles.

One of the other challenges I faced in the beginning while bootstrapping my business was going at it all alone. Now, however, I’m much more focused on building teams and resources that I can use to create faster results with more leverage.

But the biggest challenge for me, and all the entrepreneurs I’ve found is personal mindset issues surrounding confidence and clarity. Many successful entrepreneurs look like we have it all together, but often we’re figuring it out as we go… and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Costanzo Marketing Group – what should we know?
Costanzo Marketing Group is an opportunistic entrepreneurial venture and advisory company that both runs my multiple ventures as well as advises companies on how they better position themselves for growth and or an exit.

Many of my clients have referred to me and my firm as a “catalyst” that helps them create quick and effective change in a sometimes confusing marketplace by creating clarity for them on the best course of action (as well as advising them on what to avoid).

I’m actively looking for business owners who are exit minded and are looking to sell all or part of their business to a team who can potentially turn it around or take it and run with it. I’ve been fortunate to have clients that range from Inc. 5000 companies to billionaires and world champion athletes where I advise on their brands and create new business opportunities for them.

I’m also the host of a popular business podcast called “Bacon Wrapped Business with Brad Costanzo; Sizzling Hot Business Advice Guaranteed To Make You Fat… Profits!” which was named one of the top 35 podcasts by Inc.com magazine.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I owe most of my success to insatiable curiosity and simply paying attention.

My friends, colleagues and especially my clients lovingly refer to me as “Bradipedia” for my ability to ideate and recall strategies and tactics that I may have learned about years ago but see how to fit into their business.

The curiosity and “get my foot in the door and figure it out later” approach has created numerous business opportunities that I couldn’t have imagined without it.

More than anything though, I think it’s simply viewing life and business as a game we get to play, not one that we have to work out. That perspective change makes all the difference when the game gets really hard and confusing.
