Today we’d like to introduce you to Breana Harrison.
Breana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Hi, my name is Breana Harrison. I have been a Hair Stylist for 17 years now, which is so crazy to think, but I am so blessed to be where I am today. I’ve always had a passion for all things related to beauty. First it started for my love of makeup, the MAC counter was always my first stop whenever going to the mall and I would practice my hair and makeup skills on my friends any chance I could get. Little did I know that being a hairstylist was my calling in life.
After starting community College, I soon realized my love for the beauty industry, even though at that time a Hairstylist wasn’t really considered a successful occupation. Long story short, and all things considered I left college and signed up for cosmetology school. After school, I began my hair journey assisting for a very renowned stylist in Temecula. I assisted for about a year and then was asked to stay and build my clientele at that salon. This was such a great opportunity for me because at that time Temecula and the area surrounding that salon was just booming. I built pretty quickly and was on my way to being a successful stylist.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
With how quickly I built my clientele, I was thriving. I thought this was easy and I can do this anywhere. About a year into my career, I moved to New Mexico after getting married. I quickly realized it’s not that easy to build just anywhere and definitely struggled to build up like I had back home. I returned back to Temecula in 2008 and trying to rebuild my business in the midst of the recession was quite daunting. I had many people telling me I should do something else and I wasn’t going to make a living this way. But this was my passion, and all that negativity pushed me harder to be a successful Hairstylist, but by no means was it easy.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a stylist at Main Street Salon in Old Town Temecula. The team at Main Street all have a great passion for hair, making it a rewarding and proud environment to work in. I specialize in Hair Extensions and Hair Color. I offer creative coloring and highlighting including ombre, balayage and corrective coloring. I also specialize in the newest forms of extensions, like the non-damaging seamless tape-in extensions and the most popular at the moment, the hand-tied weft extensions. Keeping the integrity of my client’s hair is always my top priority. I would say I am known for my knowledge of hair and being open and honest with my clients. I am always going to give my professional opinion, but also explain to my clients the reasoning behind my thoughts. I also truly believe in continuing education and keeping up on the latest hair trends. This will set you apart from 70-80% of other stylists. I honestly feel these things have set me apart and made me more successful.
What were you like growing up?
I was actually kind of a Tomboy growing up, I played sports and was very active. As I got into high school, I still played sports, but definitely became more girly. I was very interested in make up and fashion as well as sports. As I said earlier I was the one doing all my friends hair and makeup in high school for dances and events.
