Meet Brian Wilverding, Jean-Charles Le Bours, and Todd Volkart

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Wilverding, Jean-Charles Le Bours, and Todd Volkart of The San Diego Financial Group

There are three financial advisors in their practice and each has a bit of a different story on how they got to where they are today—working together in a successful comprehensive financial planning team.

Brian started at Boston University where he knew he wanted to do something involving investments but wasn’t sure exactly what that was. He started working as an intern at a couple investments firms, where he watched advisors strategize on how to help their clients reach their financial goals, and knew that was what he wanted to do. After living in the Northeast his whole life, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, he was ready for a change and decided to relocate to San Diego. Fourteen years later, two business partners, great staff and a lot of long hours and hard work, he’s created a top-notch holistic financial planning business.

JC grew up in Monaco, France and came to San Diego State for college where he earned a degree in Business Administration and Finance. He began his career working for three years at Bank of America before joining Ameriprise Financial. His passion was to work with clients through comprehensive financial planning. In 2007, JC and Brian merged their practices. After 11 years at Ameriprise, JC has continued to grow by helping more clients achieve their financial goals.

For Todd, his journey began after graduating from The University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, with a Business Finance degree while also playing football. After a few attempts at the NFL, Todd started his financial Advisor career at PaineWebber and Smith Barney before joining Ameriprise Financial in 2009. Shortly after beginning at Ameriprise, Todd joined Brian and JC’s practice and they formed the San Diego Financial Group.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
We don’t believe you can be successful without having failures. Our most difficult time would probably have to be during the Great Recession, which began in 2008. The stock market was dropping at a rapid rate, housing values were declining and people were being laid off from their jobs. All of this made our work that much harder.

The worst part was that we didn’t have control over all of these aspects. However, we were able to persevere by being proactive. We were in constant contact with our clients and provided advice on how to navigate the recession. This included everything from encouraging them to continue saving to proving historical information on recessions and economic cycles. Our proactive process is a cornerstone of our practice and we stay true to it in good economic times and bad.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The San Diego Financial Group, a Private Wealth Advisory Practice of Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc story. Tell us more about the business.
The San Diego Financial Group is a Private Wealth Advisory Practice of Ameriprise Financial. We are best known for our comprehensive financial planning approach, where we help people accomplish both their short and long-term financial goals—this can be anything from annual family trips to saving for a child’s college education, to buying a vacation home, to retiring early to spend more time with friends and family.

We look at all the aspects of someone’s financial life including investments, cash management, insurance needs, tax strategies and more. Our team reviews how these pieces work together to complete someone’s overall financial picture. Our consistent process with each individual client allows us to provide comprehensive advice and first-class service.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
We have been fortunate to be acknowledged as industry leaders by our peers, clients, and community. As a team, or individually, we have been recognized in San Diego Magazine as 5 Star Wealth Advisors for the past seven consecutive years, have completed post-graduate degrees and have earned industry designations, which has grown our knowledge base to help our clients.

However, much of our success comes from the amazing clients we have who promote us to their friends and family for all the work we do for them. We also cannot forget the incredible staff members who work with us every day. Everyone from our receptionist to our registered operations leader to our registered client service associates makes our practice run smoothly. We wouldn’t be as successful as we are without them.
