Meet Briana McDonald of Green + Anchor in Bankers Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana McDonald.

Briana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been doing hair in both Portland and San Diego for over 10 years. I went on a health journey in my personal life and it caused me to have a concern about the fumes and chemicals I was being exposed to on a daily basis in the salon. I knew if the products I was using were potentially cancer-causing for me, my clients deserved a better alternative to traditional haircare too. Green + Anchor is the best of both worlds.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think anyone opening a new business will see some challenges! I’m lucky to have a really solid clientele and people have really embraced the new salon location. I think San Diego was really seeking a holistic hair option so we have filled a much-needed niche.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Green + Anchor – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Green + Anchor is a holistic hair salon in Bankers Hill. We only use selectively sourced hair colors and products that are non-toxic or naturally-derived. Our products never contain GMOs, EDTA, SLS/SLES, Parabens, Petrolatum, Phalates, Mineral Oils, and are vegan and cruelty-free. We are also environmentally responsible as a member of Greencircle Salons, which aims to reduce carbon footprint with the use of recycling, repurposing, green cleaning products, etc.

We offer color, cut, styling, extensions, and I am also a vivid color artist.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We have only been open a few months so we are working on growing the business! We are growing the team and getting the word out!
