Meet Briana Nelson of Nomadic Active in North County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana Nelson.

Brianna, before we jump into specific questions about the company, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Born and raised in NorCal, my mother was single most of my younger year and what an example she set working long days to support her kids. She eventually struck gold, remarried and built out the wonderful family we enjoy today. After a youth in wine country then Sacramento, I was able to get a taste of SoCal by attending SDSU. Once in the real world, I met my partner in life and our adventure through life began. Starting 13 years ago we embarked on some memorable trips including backpacking throughout Southeast Asia, living in Australia for three years, gaining Advanced Open Water Dive Certification to go deep within the Great Barrier and Malolo Reef systems, and of course exploring closer to home by camping/surfing/exploring Baja…secret desert campsites…you name it across the West and we have camped it! Find us out and about along the coast and we’ll tell you how to live in an RV for a year.

Somewhere in there we moved up from San Diego and started a family close to where my husband grew up in Cardiff by the Sea. This year our eldest started Cardiff Elementary school and our daughter rocks preschool most days. After a number of years in the corporate world, I turned my passion into one part of my career, becoming a Certified Yoga Instructor. Join me weekly 9 am on Thursdays @ Evolve Yoga Movement-Encinitas and 9:30 am on Wednesdays at Encinitas Karate or a variety of times/days at Yoga Six locations. It turns out my mother’s hustle is genetic, so when I’m not providing yoga adjustments during my classes or chasing my wee ones, you can find me building my company @NomadicActive where we curate many things…hands-on yoga, athleisure and yoga/surf retreats…join us in Bali 2020!

Has it been a smooth road?
What’s life without the up and downs? It makes you fierce and pushes you to find yourself amongst the ladder climbing rat race here in our beautiful country. Few of us understand a single mom’s struggles and I appreciate my mother to this day. I truly love the adventure of life and am fearless in trying new things…even if that means pivoting, uprooting and finding our path elsewhere. Each experience, whether well worn or challenging, has built my family’s foundation and I would do it all again.

We’d love to hear more about your company.
My company @NomadicActive offers personalized yoga classes, retreats and athleisure trunk shows where I have curated a variety of USA manufactured brands of Women’s Activewear. We offer our athleisure and nibbles trunk shows in homes and businesses (studios, gyms, breweries, salons, spas, offices, etc.) throughout San Diego. C’mon friends, let’s sweat then seltzer! @NomadicActive currently hosts a weekly Vinyasa Yoga class at Encinitas Karate Wednesday at 9:30 – 10:30 am, open to the public and Free first class. @NomadicActive is about bringing accessible yoga, retreats and a unique athleisure shopping experience to you…anywhere!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
We are spoiled with fantastic year-round weather (appreciate it readers, half the country’s frozen right now!) making any activity accessible. While we don’t hinder the Olympic hopeful triathletes on the 101, my family and I do take full advantage year-round with our mountain bikes, surfboard quiver, kayaks, SUPs, snowboards, skis and, a recent purchase due to our top of hill location with kids, e-bikes! As @NomadicActive focuses on movement, I couldn’t imagine a better place for business! We have access to beautiful beaches, mountains, deserts, lagoons, and a diverse scene of exercise studios and gyms, this is a place for active people…but join me in not posting all of the secret spots on the web! 😉
