Meet Candice Puthawala of Beauty Bar Chocolate

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice Puthawala.

Candice, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always lived my life on fast forward trying to get it all done! I worked for over 18 years in the fashion industry. If you saw me then I would have been running in heels with lots of bags in hand and my young daughter in tow. I barely had time to breathe let alone meditate. I always strived for a balanced life but I struggled to achieve it. I was always too hard on myself and never gave myself a deserved pat on the back.

By living this way, I burned out my entire body and as a result, I became ill. I was tired, I had inflammation, candida, thyroid issues, anxiety and I had no more inspiration in my life. My health was off from living a life in constant high stress. As a result, my body went into flight or fight mode for many years. This is how I became ill.

Finally, I left the fashion world to heal myself and to change my life. In the fashion industry, all the focus was beauty on the outside. It wasn’t until I shifted my lens to focus on beauty from the inside out that I began to heal. Some of the major healers in my life was changing my lifestyle, removing sugars and adding collagen and adaptogens to my diet. That is when I started to calm down the stress in my body and started to heal.

It was time to change my life as I knew it and go after new dreams. It was no surprise to find myself drawn into the wellness world. I became a certified Integrative nutrition health coach through The Institute for Integrative Nutrition and a certified plant-based chef from Plant Lab/ Matthew Kenney Culinary.

I began to use superfoods + herbs to help me heal my autoimmune symptoms & anxiety. I knew I wanted to share my knowledge and create a product that would help others feel their best. So this was the perfect opportunity, I entered my lab (aka my kitchen) and created my dream chocolate.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This has been the bumpiest journey that I have ever been on.

Leaving my career and all that I knew behind was scary and bold. I knew there was no looking back and as I jumped into the unknown of my new life I knew it would bring me to exactly where I needed to be.

My motto since leaving my career has been to “get comfortable with being uncomfortable”. I started to go after everything that scared me. I started with public speaking. I signed up for Toastmasters and started to use my voice in an authentic way.

That was not easy and it still isn’t but it’s becoming more comfortable for me. I now love speaking at events and sharing my story. I have always been an artist and was always creative. I lost myself in the craziness of my career, young motherhood & life. I would yearn to be creative and I would tell myself I didn’t have time and to focus only on one thing. I shoved myself down for almost two decades. I decided it was time to come back to that girl.

I am and will always be a multi-faceted woman! I always thought that was a bad thing. I was always told that I was doing too many things and to focus only one thing or I would not be successful. I am finally owning who I am. I am an artist, mama, a business boss lady and a wife plus many more things! My brand Beauty Bar Chocolate would not have been created if I didn’t let all the parts of me shine.

While this has not been an easy transition (but more of a journey) it has been healing and I am the happiest I have been since I was younger making my own clothes and contraptions! I am grateful to be standing in my own power and learning to love and own all the parts of me.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Beauty Bar Chocolate story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a health + wellness influencer for A Whole + Happy Life. I share tips on how to have balance in life. You can eat all the kale in the world and sleep 8 hours a night and still get ill like I did. I teach people how to find their beauty+ glow from the inside out. I share wellness & lifestyle tips, such as how to make sugar free cocktails. It’s all about balance.

I also created my brand Beauty Bar Chocolate. It’s a sugar-free, raw chocolate bar that helps relieve stress, fights fatigue and balances hormones all while giving your skin that natural spa glow. It’s made with hand selected super-foods, adaptogens and pearl collagen. It’s my secret to how I got my glow back after years of living out of balance and making myself sick! Beauty Bar Chocolates were born out of a need for something sweet and healthy to eat.

It’s hard to find chocolate that is made with healthy ingredients. I hand-selected the best ingredients on the market. They are free of anything toxic and filled with all things beautiful!

I am passionate about sharing my products with people who want to feel their best, glow from the inside out and enjoy the euphoric effect of delicious, real (and healthy) chocolate! Eating 3 squares of Beauty Bar Chocolate a day will bring you peace, focus & glowing skin!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck as much as I believe in getting in tune with yourself. When you learn to quiet your mind then it’s easier to hear your inner thoughts. This is when you start to live in a place of flow. I lived against my flow for most of my life and never listened to that nagging voice inside my head.

I always told myself I had to work harder in order to become successful. While I believe you have to work hard for what you want there is more ease when you have a purpose for it. I started to do things like hang with like-minded women, mediation, walking down to the ocean and watering my garden. I am not a grounded person by nature and have to work on becoming calm. Becoming a calmer me has been challenging but a game changer. I now listen to what comes up for me and go with that.

Before launching Beauty Bar Chocolate, I would meditate and would see what ideas would come up for me. I kept seeing myself with Beauty Bar Chocolate. I trusted my intuition and launched it this past February 2018. Since I have launched Beauty Bar chocolate many new doors have opened for me. In which I would have never thought would have been possible before.

I am no longer working against the grain in my life and I am going with the ease of it.
