Meet Candy Iverson of Wellness By Candy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candy Iverson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My passion for my work comes through in my treatments, as I see esthetics and massage as a form of art, and my clients are the canvas.

When I was in high school, I knew I wanted to do massage. I loved the responses I would receive from my friends and family after working on them and knew I wanted a career where I could help change other peoples lives. Three short months after turning 18 I began my journey as a Massage Therapist. I started out working at day spas, which helped me continue my education and deepen my practice

Over the years of working in day spas, I was able to experience the power of facials and learn more about skincare and the importance of quality products. The results I had with my skin from facials inspired me to go back to school to become an esthetician. I was already healing people on an internal level, so adding esthetics could help me heal people externally as well.

After getting my estheticians license, I knew it was time to take a step outside of my comfort zone and start building my own practice. Just a few months after becoming a licensed Esthetician, Wellness By Candy was born. Although at the time there were points where I had second guessed myself and wondered if I made the right decision to go on my own.

Looking back now, it was one of the best decisions I’ve made, and I cherish all the obstacles I encountered on the way. My greatest inspiration for my career stems from the connections I share with my clients and the opportunity I have to be a part of their health and wellness journey.

Has it been a smooth road?
This field definitely has its challenges. First and foremost, this career isn’t one where you start off making a steady income. It takes years to build a clientele and during that time I’ve had to juggle multiple jobs to make ends meet. I have had many days where I would be waiting at work all day and not have a single client. There were times where I wanted to give up and get a Monday-Friday 9-5 job, but deep down I knew that path wasn’t for me. My drive to heal and help others kept me on the path that has lead me to where I am today.

Owning my own business brought on a whole new level of obstacles. I was confident in my massage and esthetic skills at that point, but running a business was uncharted territory for me. After a few months of just trying to wing it, I decided that if I wanted to be successful in owning a business, I should take a couple of business and marketing classes at the local junior college. The classes gave a good basis of how to run a business, but honestly, having a successful business happens through trial and error.

Fast forward a couple of years after opening my private practice, and being to the point where I had a steady clientele, I decided to throw a wrench into the works and move almost 600 miles away. That decision brought me here to San Diego.

I moved to a city where I knew very few people and had zero clientele. I decided my best choice would be to start off at a day spa. I got a couple of different spa jobs that kept me busy enough for the time being. After about six months of living down here and working for a company I knew it was time to bite the bullet and open my practice again. I started with no clientele, but a positive mindset and the patience and persistence needed to grow.

Here I am four months later staying much busier than I anticipated and continuing to grow every day.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Wellness By Candy story. Tell us more about the business.
Wellness By Candy is ever evolving, keeping up with what the most recent research, trends, and treatments. I continuously seek out new treatment modalities to strengthen my practice and provide the best possible care for my clients.

In 2018, I completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training to deepen my understanding of the flow of energy throughout the body, enhancing the therapeutic experience.

Throughout the years, I have elevated my techniques with the help of my mentor Kona Waha Santana to create a beautiful fusion of styles we have coined as “Yogissage.”

Yogissage is a unique blend of Swedish, Deep Tissue, Thai stretches and Reflexology mixed with hot stones, warm towels, and essential oils to ensure a decadent experience.

This healing, therapeutic treatment, combined with all the enhancements you would find at a day spa, provides an unparalleled experience for every client. My skincare treatments are inspired by a whole body wellness approach.

The skin is an organ and skin issues are usually a sign of internal issues. The initial facial with my clients includes an in-depth consultation of not only their current skin care product use but their lifestyle habits as well.

I want my clients to experience lasting results, and that is achieved by enhancing their diet and home routine. I use a blend of massage techniques that target on facial focal points to help relieve tension and reduce fine lines while incorporating medical grade products and tools to help bring med spa results with day spa luxuries to my clients.

I believe being dual-licensed with a background in yoga really sets me apart from others because it has helped me become well-rounded in all aspects of the body and its functions.

Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years?  Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
I see this industry expanding immensely within the next 5-10 years. People are turning towards holistic healing and taking charge of their own health and well-being.

We’re even starting to see health insurances covering the costs of alternative treatments. With all the science backing skincare and massage, my hope is that people will start seeing this industry as a necessity rather than a luxury.

Pricing:

  • Yogissage 90-120 minutes $150-$200
  • Deluxe Facial $160
  • Signature Facial $130
  • Express Facial $90
