Today we’d like to introduce you to Carole Thompson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Carole. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up here in San Diego, and I Love this town. I am a naturally creative, I was born this way. I see color and beauty everywhere.
When I was young and trying to figure how being an artist was going to equate to paycheck, I discovered my ability to hair. Then, in my late teens, I made it official and went to cosmetology school.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As an artist, the road to success can be harsh. In the beginning, I worked for others while I honed my craft. At the time I was a young single mom, so I worked where I could make a living. (Big shout out to my artist daughters Larissa Galarza and Antonia McCluskey)
When I was doing eight-minute mans’ haircuts or providing a color service without a blow dry to see the finished product- well there was nothing creative about it.
At the time, I thought that I would never get out of the cycle. Eventually, I broke out on my own and started my own hair business. I still dabble in other artistry, metal-smith, candle making, drawing, painting, however, I am a master with hair artistry.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Carole Thompson Hair Designer story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in hair color, Japanese and Keratin hair straightening. My integrity is what I am most proud of in my work. I go over and beyond the expectations of the service.
I constantly learn techniques and I am not afraid to try them. I have experience with sensitivities and I use quality products. There are so many great products on the market today.
Such as ammonia and PPD free hair color, formaldehyde-free keratin for hair smoothing and straightening. I have mastered the art of the Japanese straight-perm for permanent silky smooth hair using the Yuko system from Japan.
What sets me apart, is my ability to make connections and keep them. When my client comes in to see me, it’s not just about the amazing hair color, hair cut, or hair straightening, it how these services can make them feel. After a long day in the salon, those after service thank you messages bring me great joy
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
On one hand, my success as an artist and human being is directly related to my relentless work ethic and skills. On the other hand, I am successful because I never give up and always find a way around an obstacle.
I am flexible and I am willing to adapt with change. I am lucky because I do not get boxed in and I look for alternate way to accomplish the goal, both professionally and personally.
