Meet Cassie B of CB Music Productions and Cassie B Project

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassie B.

Cassie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began performing in children’s theater when I was in the 5th Grade. I developed so much love for performing. When I started high school I fell in love with Hip Hop dancing and joined Culture Shock San Diego. I danced with them for about 4 years and realized I really missed singing.

From there I auditioned for “Shamu’s Christmas” at Sea World San Diego. That turned into an 8.5-year career as a singer, host and dancer there. The last show I did was “Madagascar Live!” I was the Female Vocalist and performed with a live band. Everyone in that show became a tight-knit family.

I also met my boyfriend during that run. He was the bass player in the show. Once that show ended, we decided to create our own band and started pursuing cover band gigs. 4 years later, we are playing weddings, corporate parties, and venues all around San Diego, including the World Famous San Diego Zoo.

Back in 2009, I got my cosmetology license, and I have been so lucky to also pursue a career in the salon as a hairstylist. I work 3-4 days a week in the salon, and then on the weekends, I live my dream as the lead singer of my own band. My hustle never feels like work. There is always another level of greatness to strive for.

Has it been a smooth road?
I would say it has been like riding waves. Some weeks are insane and frustrating, and some are momentous and exciting. I believe every season has its ups and downs.

Struggles along the way have included working with other creative people. Sometimes it can be difficult to decide on one decision between different brilliant minds. Also being in the entertainment business, you deal with a lot of people who don’t always respect your work and the fact that this is our living… not just something we do for fun.

On the other side, I feel so blessed with the musicians in our circle. Ryan (my boyfriend) and I talk about this all the time. Our musicians are very professional, and we know we can count on them to do amazing work. They are so talented, silly, and they feel like family. Ryan and I have been very picky about who we bring in. So far, we have had amazing luck!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the CB Music Productions and Cassie B Project story. Tell us more about the business.
Our company, CB Music Productions provides live music for special events. Cassie B Project (our main focus band) plays mainly top 40’s covers. CB Music Productions has many other groups of musicians and bands that we can offer clients. Our collection of styles range between rock, dance, burlesque, folk, funk, and jazz.

Our company specializes in spreading excitement about music, and celebration. We strive to make a connection with our audiences and leave them with beautiful memories with their friends and family. Music is such a strong force of happiness and love. I would say I am most proud of our show quality. The band rehearses weekly and works incredibly hard to make our shows look and sound amazing.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
CB Music Productions/ Cassie B Project is definitely looking for shifts and changes in the years and months to come. Last year we began writing original music, and we hope to start touring with both cover band shows and original shows. As far as cover shows go, we are starting to create more specialty shows.

In April we created a Star Wars themed show to perform at the House of Blues in Anaheim for an after party during Wondercon. We called ourselves The Millennial Falcons, and we dressed up as characters from the movies but gave their looks a new age spin.

Our next project is an all 90’s set for a show at The Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach. We are calling that one Cassie B’s 90’s Remix. These shows are about 30-45 minutes long. We hope to create more like them for different opportunities that come our way.
