Meet Cheryl Jason of Cherwear Professional Makeup Artistry in Coronado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheryl Jason.

Cheryl, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started doing makeup professionally when I lived in Washington DC. I worked at a store called Bellacara in old town Alexandria. I’m a military spouse, so we ended up pcsing to Whidbey Island, WA. I worked as a freelance artist in WA and as a beauty contributor for Bellingham Alive Magazine. As expected, once I got really established in WA state, it was time to Pcs to San Diego. I absolutely love working in San Diego. I currently an on-call artist with Coveredge studios and as a contracted artist with Jellis Faces and Elwynn & Cass, LLC. Of course, I still work freelance and especially love helping fellow military spouses.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s definitely not smooth! Picking up and moving every few years in this industry has its challenges. I do embrace the challenges, though. It makes me work harder to market myself and keep up with changes in the industry.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in special events makeup application. I’m mobile and travel to the client. Special event makeup is different from everyday makeup because it can be silicone based (cry proof). It really is a mixture of everyday and theatre makeup.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, San Diego is amazing. First off, people are nice and wanting to help others grow. I’ve made some special connections here. The beauty industry is a saturated market, but I discovered that if you are nice and do a great job on clients, it takes you far.
