Meet Christel Tran

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christel Tran.

Christel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was in college, I took a black and white film photography class. After that, I was completely obsessed. Everywhere I went, I carried a camera with me, and it quickly became a hobby. After having my three kids, my passion for photography grew even stronger. There’s something about capturing real, raw emotions and connections that truly inspires me. My kids are my biggest inspirations.

Through all this time, I was often told by my family and friends that I should pursue photography professionally. Deep down I knew this is what I wanted to do but didn’t have the courage to pull the trigger. Then, the year 2016 proved to be one of the most difficult years of my life after losing my Dad. In the midst of it all, my dear friend (who also happens to be a photographer) asked if I would consider starting a photography business.

After thinking about it for a few days and receiving many reassuring signs from the heavens above, I thought “Why not?” Little did I know that this would be the start of “the beginning” and photography would prove to be super therapeutic and comforting during such a trying time. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

It has been nearly two years since I launched Christel Tran Photography and I’m loving every single minute. I’ve gotten to meet so many wonderful families as well as reconnected with old friends. I’ve learned a ton along the way, and I’m eager to continue to learn. I’m so blessed, to say the least. 🙂

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My biggest challenge to starting a photography business was mostly within myself. I had a ton of fear and lacked confidence. Thank God I was finally able to let all that go and just go for it!

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I’m a natural light photographer based in San Diego, CA. I love to photograph families, kids, and also maternity and engagement photos. My goal at every session is to make my clients feel at ease, but most of all have lots of fun.

My favorite photos are the ones that capture the real-life connections, emotions and moments. I want to provide my clients with images that are full of love and will spark emotion.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would try not to let fear get in the way of following my passion. And would have started the business much sooner.
