Meet Ciara Mumford of Living Water Wellness in Pacific Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ciara Mumford.

Ciara, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m a 3rd Generation Cleansing & Detox Specialist. I grew up in the wellness industry with a family of detox royalty. My grandmother was the Author of the first books ever written on internal cleansing & my mother is the founder of the #1 school internationally for internal cleansing. Growing up with Cleansing & Detox as daily dinner dialogue my interest and education started early. Although my exposure to health and wellness started early, my interest in female entrepreneurship started even earlier.

I was raised by two strong and business savvy women but I instantly saw room for industry growth. At the age of 17 I started working towards expanding my mom’s company. By the age of 20 we had opened 3 cleansing & detox centers within San Diego making us the Largest and Oldest Center in San Diego. Aside from my passion for business my passion for health, healing and education in the wellness field continued.

Meanwhile, I finished my training at California Cleansing Institute for internal cleansing as well as training by creator of the most innovative lymphatic drainage equipment on the market for lymphatic and immuno cleansing. This extended education as well as my childhood and internships with multiple fasting, cleansing, & detoxification specialists launched my passion for Illness & Disease prevention. As the industry grew new equipment and products hit the market. I constantly trialed and included successful product and treatment to my business to improve my clients results. My interest and wealth of knowledge in disease and illness led me to start developing Cleansing & Detox protocols for everything for Digestive cleansing to Auto Immune health.

In 2012, I expanded my entrepreneurial interest into the Spa industry. The spa and wellness industry easily went hand and hand. Extending services to beauty and relaxation allowed me to create an innovative twist on the wellness industry by introducing a one of a kind monthly membership program. The concept of a Wellness Membership that included not only health but beauty saved our clients thousands of dollars on alternative treatment helping assist them in healing themselves and preventing long term illness’s as well as keeping them in optimal overall health. This was one of my favorite ways to truly help my clients on the path to real recovery and healing. It has been the backbone of our business since it conception to offer the best most effective alternative treatments, with the most educated professionals in the field, at a price that was truly affordable. Our one of a kind Wellness Membership allowed us to do just that.

I began trying my hand at Branding and product development. Branding and trademarking our existing family business for potential franchise sale was completed earlier this year. We now can allow aspiring wellness professionals with an interest in cleansing & detox, the opportunity to learn from our generational programs first hand with the innovators who created them, receive training in our #1 Internationally acclaimed school, utilize our time-tested supplement programs and cleansing protocols, and use our trademarked brand all over the United States, allowing us to serve clients nationwide and spread our brand of love and healing on a larger scale.

Currently, I offer an Intern training program where I get to help new industry professionals learn the ins and out of the wellness business and extend our generations of experience and knowledge. For my clients my focus is currently on the development and launching of our online training and home cleansing programs which will be in full effect by the end of 2017 and allow us to be accessible in the privacy of your home. We also just recently purchased a Ranch in the rolling hills of Julian, CA to expand our school and Cleansing Retreat Center for guests who need accelerated results and care.

The future is bright and I love being on the cutting edge of the Alternative Health and Wellness field. I’m excited to continue to bring new and innovative holistic healing to San Diego and the country with my own brand of authentic love, knowledge, & care.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Although I have a tight nit bond with the women in my family and they were very inspiring woman my childhood and young adulthood was fairly rocky despite my accomplishments. I worked full time starting at the age of 14 and was living on my own and providing for myself by the age of 16. Being financially and physically responsible for myself, my choices and my education at a young age is what led me to be an entrepreneur. I struggled to graduate from high school due to lack of balance in my personal, educational and financial life. I quickly learned that I didn’t want to be victim to my circumstances. I learned as a woman it is important to make a way and living for yourself even when you are confronted with nearly impossible circumstances.

Being so young in my industry I often got ignored, dismissed, and taken advantage of but I always kept on with my head held high. Without a road map, example or a college degree in business, only determination to guide me, there was needless to say often a lot of trial and error. I would say over half my career was composed of failed attempts and misallocation of efforts and funds.

Working with family had its benefits like never feeling alone but it was not always easy. Maintaining an amazing industry name for a company I put my blood, sweat and tears into but never being able to truly call mine often left me discouraged. Creating an inclusive environment for a family business while also trying to create independence and a name for myself among giants was never an easy task. Being validated for hard works, business efforts and an entrepreneurial spirit in an industry based solely on quality of service to a client was always obsolete. Again, all of these things taught me huge lessons. I learned to not need to be seen or validated to become a strong and independent woman and an industry leader.

When I bought out my company and separated from my family for a short time at the age of 23, I really then felt alone not just physically but financially. I felt isolated from my friends who were living a completely different lifestyle. Many were in college and working serving jobs as well as feeding their social lives. I had to work twice as hard to pay my bills, grow my company, pay off my debts, further my education and somehow find time to have a social life. Although a struggle at the time with multiple sleepless nights It inspired wisdom, discernment, and only amplified my independence.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
