Meet Cindy Mohr of Beauty by the Beach in Birdrock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Mohr.

Cindy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist for almost 40 years starting in New Jersey worked in Colorado, and now in California. I also have experience in education as a cosmetology instructor, and a traveling educator. I decided to get behind a chair again about six years ago, and started working in Pacific Beach area five years ago. After working in other Salons for three years, I felt I built enough clientele to head out on my own and rent a small Studio Salon through Sola Salons. I now enjoy the privilege of being My Own Boss, and enjoy the personal space that I can share with my clients. I take pride in excellent customer service, because I believe that’s number one in being successful.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s never easy beginning as a cosmetologist in a new area. It’s up to you to build your clientele, with walk-ins or through advertising and word-of-mouth. So of course in the beginning I had to struggle until I build my clientele.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Beauty by the Beach – what should we know?
My business is a hair salon. With the experience of an educator and the years at that I’ve been license, my specialties are broad. I do a lot of color, highlights and balayage, but I am also known for my cuts. I have an understanding of color and how tones work with each other to create beautiful dimension. I am probably most proud of the knowledge I’ve accumulated over the years, especially when I got into education, because it is the knowledge I have that creates the most beautiful end results. What sets me apart from others is my one on one attention you receive in my salon. I don’t double book, and my salon is small and comfortable so it’s just you and me.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have had so much support in becoming my own stylist. My previous students cheered me on and my family we’re supportive over my long hours of building clientele. Coworkers have been very supportive, complimenting my work and cheering me on to go out on my own. And of course, it is my clients because without my clients I would not be successful.
