Meet Cody Sherman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Sherman.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
The three of us are from Ocean Beach in San Diego. We attended elementary school, middle school, high school & college together. We Have been playing music together for about 3 years now. The Band of Gringos formed organically from jamming at our bass players house. We started by playing a couple random backyard gigs and the response was really good, so we just kept on doing shows.

Please tell us about your art.
We make and perform music. We do it because it makes us and the people around us super stoked. I think the message is different depending on what song we are playing. Our inspiration comes from our life experiences and the ones we love. I hope people take away their own unique experiences and emotions from our music. I think our live shows are a good escape from everything they may be happening in a certain person’s life. Personally, when I go out and perform my music, I am not thinking about anything else that is happening in my life. I am completely in the moment, only experiencing the emotions and energy that are going on in and around me. I guarantee each person in the crowd could agree with this; because they are all a part of the energy as well. You should know that our music is honest and real.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
It’s only lonely if you make it lonely. Don’t be shy, go out and talk to other artists in your craft. We all love meeting new people. If you meet someone who is lame and turns you away for trying to talk to them, that’s fine because they probably aren’t even a good person to be around in the first place. Surround yourself with happy inspired/inspiring people. Also, don’t act like your better than everybody, this will cause people to be defensive towards you; which will ultimately result in them not wanting to share their wisdom with you. You can learn something from everyone!

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
By listening to our music. We have our first EP that is now on all the big music platforms (Spotify, Apple Music etc.).
Also, coming and experiencing our live shows is another great way to support us, and in my opinion, the best way to see our work; and while you’re at the shows, buying a shirt and wearing it around town is great for us as well.
