Meet Corine Maggio of CM Natural Designs in La Jolla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Corine Maggio.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Corine. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I spent most of my young adulthood traveling and soul-searching before finally coming to the realization that interior design was my calling, even though the signs had been there all along. As a child I made epic Lego houses, rearranged my room compulsively and thought drafting paper was the best thing since sliced bread.

So, I made leap and enrolled in design school and graduated in 2009.

After getting an opportunity to take a couple of clients while working as the Director of Communications for Design Institute of San Diego, my alma mater, I decided it was time to go off on my own. That was in 2013 and the company has grown exponentially since then.

I have not been immune to the fears that come with being self-employed and then having employees. Growth can be hard and scary but something I have never regretted. I am extremely proud of the work we put out, our relationships with our clients and the general positive energy our team exudes. We love our work and are grateful that we get to share our gifts in this way.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been smooth road at all! There have been times I wasn’t sure I could make ends meet or concerns about disappointing a client or being good enough. But, in time, I’ve learned how to emotionally manage the ups and downs that come with being an interior designer and with running a business. No matter how long you’re in the industry and how well you do your job, figuring out how to navigate unexpected and new issues are just part of being a designer!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about CM Natural Designs – what should we know?
CM Natural Designs specializes in residential and occasionally hospitality design. We are known for tailoring our designs to emphasize the unique personality and lifestyle of each client. This has resulted in a vibrant and wide-ranging portfolio. We are also known for our pricing transparency, organization and ease to work with. These are all things that set us and our designs apart from many other design firms.

We are very humanistic in our approach and spend significant time really getting to know our clients and finding clever solutions to enhance their living experience. We find joy and purpose in creating personalized and meaningful designs that provide our clients with a sense of self and well-being.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I love this question! There have been so many friends, family and fans who have always voiced support and enthusiasm about the work we have produced. The staff and faculty at Design Institute of San Diego have been my biggest cheerleaders. Every person that has ever worked for the company has been influential and significant. And, of course, my husband who, though he hasn’t been there since the beginning, has always been an important sounding board and encourager.
