Meet Cory Whitlock, Nicholas Hodgkinson, and Rusty Whitlock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cory Whitlock, Nicholas Hodgkinson, and Rusty Whitlock.

Rusty Whitlock started shaping surfboards in Seal Beach in 1963. His journey of shaping and building surfboards carried him from Hawaii back to Southern California in the early 80s. Rusty Whitlocks son, Cory Whitlock, joined the business in 2001 when a need for screen printing and further design of the surf company arose. Since then, the family ran surf business has flourished into a surfboard hub, featuring year-round surf lessons, a fully stocked surf shop in downtown Oceanside, a large business to business screen printing service in the same location, and a fully equipped surfboard manufacturing facility 2 miles away to produce and repair all of the surfboards the company has been producing since the early ’60s; RW Surfboards.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth does not exist. Obstacles have been at every step of the way, but due to the sheer desire to produce the finest quality surfboard for the surfers of San Diego, the pursuit has remained steady. It has been a tough road for the company but it has also been a very rewarding road to where we are today.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
