Meet Courtney Preis and Mary Morrison of Back to Basics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Preis and Mary Morrison.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Back to Basics truly began 13 years ago when we became best friends on the East Coast. We have always been mindful of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but it wasn’t until we immersed ourselves in a farm school program that shed light on the industrial food system and the negative impacts it has on our planet and society as a whole.

Immediately, we felt compelled to speak up and share this message with as many people as we can on social media platforms and thus, our YouTube channel, Back to Basics came to life. On this channel, we discuss ways to embrace a greener lifestyle in the world we live in today. You can find topics like sustainable living, plant-based eating habits, zero waste hacks, exercise routines, sex, love, relationships and more.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With everything comes challenges, however, the passion that stands behind our mission far surpasses the obstacles. The topics we discuss are usually deemed as controversial, which has caused some backlash from skeptics who do not believe there is a direct correlation between our food system and climate change.

Our mission is to destroy that paradigm and spread truth and awareness on all things sustainability. As an upcoming business, we still have our individual sources of income that we juggle on the side, but we always persevere and make Back to Basics a priority.

Please tell us about Back to Basics.
Our company is unique being that it is primarily social media based. We exist for the purpose of education and awareness on ecological issues and lifestyle changes. As part of the upcoming generation, we believe in the power of healing our planet by creating influential videos on small lifestyle changes that everyone can implement to create a more sustainable, happy future for Mother Earth and our society as a whole.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
As we stated before, we have been best friends for 13 years, so choosing one memory is near impossible. Our favorite part about our journey beside each other has been experiencing our paths unfold in similar ways no matter where we were and always sticking together. We have grown up together and now are starting a business as adults– our childhood dream come true!
