Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristina Cadden.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Cristina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
CC Vintage Rentals started unintentionally while my husband, Spencer, and I were planning our 2014 wedding in Ramona, CA. With a strong affinity for all things vintage, we dreamed of a peaceful venue, surrounded by nature, and staged with vintage sofas, settees, and chairs for our guests to sit in. It wasn’t until I amassed a large collection of furniture did I realized my love for designing weddings with a vintage flare could be our future business venture.
Shortly after our wedding, we began getting inquiries to help other couples create their own dream weddings with our pieces. After a few months, and multiple events under our belts, we decided to pursue vintage rentals full time. Luckily for us, CC Vintage Rentals has rapidly grown over the past few years with the completion of over 200 events ranging from weddings to baby showers and more.
We hope to continue to share our love of vintage pieces with many more couples and families in the years to come.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Like any business venture, there are always a few obstacles to overcome. Fortunately for us, there have been many more rewards than challenges, although we have definitely faced an obstacle or two.
The most difficult aspect of owning a business for us has been storage space. Operating a specialty rental company requires the need to always be increasing your inventory. The more unique and beautiful your items, the more they are desired. This leads to the problem of where you are going to put your new items. For us, we started in a 700 sq. ft. warehouse in Mission Valley for the first year in business. Let me tell you, six months into our lease we were already bursting at the seams. Luckily, we were able to build up and stack to finish out the last 6 months. To be honest, I basically play furniture Tetris for a living.
Thankfully, we moved next to a 2,000 sq. ft. building in El Cajon where we are currently. Now two years into that lease we are almost at capacity again. As stressful as it can be at times, we are fortunate enough to be in the process of building our own warehouse that will hopefully be enough space for years to come.
Please tell us about CC Vintage Rentals.
We here at CC Vintage Rentals specialize in renting vintage furniture and decor for any special occasion, but most commonly for the wedding industry. With one of the largest specialty inventories in San Diego County, we can tailor our pieces to fit nearly any style of event.
Our Hanging Sweetheart Table is our signature piece along with the abundance of sofas and settees we have in house. The creativity of our custom pieces are what really sets our company apart and makes me the most proud. When you see an idea come to life and not only look the way you wanted, but is then used in multiple couple’s special days, that’s just the icing on the cake.
I firmly believe in having a signature look that reflects our personal taste. As such, we have a large variety of Victorian furniture that we just adore. That in return then brings in the clientele we are looking for.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I honestly believe everything happens for a reason, so if I had to start over the only thing I would really change would be my email address. I would have made it a little shorter since I used my full name, but other than that I am content with the choices I have made. Not all our decisions have worked out exactly how I wanted them to, but they have all been life lessons.
