Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Lagomarsino.
Dana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started with dance. Like all artists, I encountered countless injuries for the love of art. Throughout my dance career I experienced many healing modalities and I was able to innately learn a multitude of techniques in order to help others. Not only did I work on my fellow dancers’ muscles backstage, I was also assisting them with their hair and makeup, and loving it all!
By 2008 I completed my degree in cosmetology and acquired my bachelor’s in sports medicine and dance. Shortly after I started Yoga to help further rehabilitate my body. I was incredibly moved by the subtleties and intricacies of Yoga, which led me to become certified as a Yoga Instructor. For over a year, I traveled to Southeast Asia to dive deeper into the culture and immerse myself in different healing techniques such as Thai Yoga massage and energetic healing, known as Reiki.
After settling back in San Diego, I completed my 1000HR Massage Therapy license and got inspired to start Just Lago – a collective of people who offer and facilitate amazing services towards inner and outer beauty.
Nowadays, I am fully immersed in Just Lago and I can’t go a day without a little humor, puppy snuggles and vanilla lattes. I love surrounding myself with inspiring individuals and I am passionate about helping others relax and connect and most importantly create beautiful events that give back to our clients’ health and happiness.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most entrepreneurs, there are always challenges along the way. And true to form, challenges are presented to us as an opportunity for growth. I am happy and welcome such challenges.
Time. Always needing more time for your business and always needing more time for yourself. Finding the balance (which is different to everyone) is key. Even though I work for myself, I schedule in the times that I want to work out, read a book, or play my ukulele. It is important to me to soothe my soul so I can be the best version of myself for my fiancé, friends, and our clients.
People. Working with a collective, my biggest lesson has been to hold the space for others without judgments. It’s perfectly okay for someone to exercise his/her right of choice and I fully embrace the beauty in peoples’ journeys. I believe those who are aligned with our philosophy are meant to be a part of our story.
Just Lago – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Just Lago allows our artists to remain independent and, at the same time, we are able to use this platform to work together on projects. We promote our artists as well as their businesses because we encourage entrepreneurship. All of us are lady bosses and flourish on positivity. We are passionate, reliable and ready for the hustle.
We are Just Lago: a collective of Cosmetologists, Makeup Artists, Massage Therapists, Yoga Instructors and more based in the San Diego area available for mobile services for any special event. Weddings are our specialty. We offer a spa-like experience right on-site. This is the perfect way for you and your bridal party, friends and family to feel relaxed and totally centered.
Our motto is to “Just let go… and Just Lago” because we bring and set the “chill vibe” for our brides and clients. By including relaxation services such as massages, yoga, and breathing techniques paired with hair, makeup and more, we are able to create the symbiotic relationship between inner and outer beauty.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I aspire to live moment to moment, and in that philosophy, my proudest moment is always my previous success. Whether it be large or small, every time our team is able to bring joy to someone’s’ life, or when we are able to offer a calm and serene atmosphere for our brides, we walk away from our events and/or clients with pride.
Personally, my proudest moment is the courage it took to start and run my own business. It has been a lifetime of preparation: from my education to my business savviness and lastly my personal growth. I am eternally grateful and humbled by the teachers and inspiring individuals that I’ve encountered along the way.
