Meet Dana Mitchell of SunChaser SUP in Mission Bay & Liberty Station

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Mitchell.

Dana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began this journey almost 10 years ago, when I moved from New Jersey to San Diego. I was unsure of my path so I decided to move across country to figure somethings out. It has been quite the adventure. I began to take some yoga classes at a few local studios around Pacific Beach. I loved everything about being on my mat, as a teacher and as a student. I decided to do a Yoga Teacher Training at CorePower Yoga in Pacific Beach. That training changed me, it pushed me, it challenged me and it cracked me wide open. This was it. I finally discovered something I was passionate about, I was in love with teaching.

After a few months of teaching, I decided to take a local SUP (stand up paddle board) yoga class. I was hooked. It takes the right amount of ease and effort to flow through a sequence on a board. It also creates more focus, more concentration of the breath. To allow yourself to be enveloped in nature, the birds become your music, the sun is your guide and the salty air kissing your skin…… sigh. I was in my happy place. I began working for the SUP company right away, for 6 years I ran the San Diego location.

I decided to start SunChaser SUP out of pure love and passion of the water. I wanted to create an experience on the water for others to enjoy. I want to wake up all of their senses, and bring them into this present moment to find Bliss on the water. I launched my new company in May of 2017. Only a few months into this wonderful new journey and I could not be happier.

I loved everything about being on my mat, as a teacher and as a student. I began to teach more often.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road, it never is. If it was smooth and easy I feel everyone would do it. Everyone would take that leap to become an Entrepreneur. It takes time and patience to build a company. Every day you wake up with a to do list and just when you begin to scratch the surface, you had 5 more things to that list. It is never ending, but you learn to balance that all out.

You realize as a business owner you can’t do it all, asking for help is so important. I think one of the biggest obstacles with being a business owner is fear. Fear of failing, or not doing it right. You have to learn to trust, everything always works out. I am enjoying the process of watching this business grow. There are so many daily tasks that go into your business operating smoothly.

I am learning so many things that go one behind the scenes. The marketing portion of the business is the hardest for me. It is very easy for a business owner to get overwhelmed, you have to take time to step back and breathe.

My biggest thing I take away from this whole experience is never give up. Just keep going, it’s worth it.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with SunChaser SUP – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
At SunChaser SUP we thrive to create a unique paddle board experience for all of our students. Whether you take one of our SUP yoga classes or just stop by for a rental, our customer service will not disappoint. We specialize in Stand up Paddle Board (SUP) yoga.

Our knowledgeable instructors guide you through board anatomy, paddle techniques and water safety before launching into the water. Once you are on your floating yoga mat you are guided through a series of Asanas (yoga poses) connecting breath to movement.

There is something so magnificent in the way your body moves, and strengthens to find balance, tied with the peaceful sound of the water crashing upon shore. Our yoga classes are designed for all levels. No experience required for yoga or paddle boarding.

What sets us apart from others is our passion, and dedication for what we do. Our instructors love being out on the water, feeling the freedom from the four walls of a studio. We offer daily classes with two different locations. Once you are on the water you then begin to let go of all your worries. At SunChaser SUP we encourage our students to stay present in the moment, and capture the Bliss. We want our student to journey back to land and remember the moments of fearlessness, peacefulness, and the beauty of nature that surrounds them.

I am proud to be the owner of SunChaser SUP. To watch all the efforts, and hard work begin to unfold into this beautiful company I had imagined.

“Come Chase the Sun”

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love San Diego, the weather, the adventure, there is always something to spark your curiosity here. I enjoy the relaxing feel of the city. No rush, no worry. One thing I miss are the seasons. Although San Diego does not get much change in the weather, seasons are a drive away. I am glad to call San Diego home.

When I return to the East Coast I get sucked back into that hustle and bustle feel. Everyone has somewhere to be and something else to do. I ground myself by thinking of San Diego, it reminds me to just chill and relax.
