Meet Dani Luecht of All Ye Citizens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dani Luecht.

Dani, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always loved supporting small shops and local artists, and as a former blogger, I used to write and feature as many as I could on my website. I loved being able to share with everyone the creativity and talent that exists right in here in San Diego. I’ve also always loved retail and longed to have my own store one day. As a manager for a local boutique, I grew in my knowledge of business owning and managing and I always wrote down my ideas for if I ever had a shop of my own one day.

In Summer of 2016, I decided to join forces with two other shop owners to open our collective space in Oceanside, CA. My shop, All Ye Citizens, is a makers’ market featuring over 70 makers and brands mostly local to San Diego, as well as abroad. Here is where my love of retail and supporting artists merged together to create something truly beautiful. I hand pick each item that comes into my shop, it truly is an extension of my heart.

And I love being able to bring awareness to makers who might not have the opportunity to have their work featured. The shop is always changing and I’ve also brought in my own sourced vintage items as I love to thrift and bring life to once forgotten pieces.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve been very fortunate to have such amazing shop partners who I’ve been able to lean on during hard times. Like every success story, there is hardship and beauty all wrapped up together. For the most part, it has been a dream and just feels so natural having this shop, I truly love it. That being said, it takes dedication and sacrifice but it’s so worth it. The amount of people I have connected with, whether it be makers or customers, is mind-blowing to me and makes all the hard days worthwhile.

Staying true to myself and not comparing myself or shop to others is something I struggle with, as many do. I strive to stay focused on how I can improve and better myself instead of always watching what everyone else is doing. Personally, I love being able to share real life with my customers. I love that they can be welcomed into space and have deep, meaningful conversations with me. I am a person, after all, not just a brand.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the All Ye Citizens story. Tell us more about the business.
All Ye Citizens is a curated shop of handmade and vintage items all handpicked by yours truly. I choose every item that enters the shop because I want them to be pieces that speak to me, that I truly love and would want for myself.

I carry everything from home decor to apothecary, jewelry, artwork, ceramics and as mentioned, vintage and eclectic pre-loved pieces that bring so much character to a home.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t necessarily believe in good or bad luck. I believe that if you work hard, are kind and uplifting, and always strive to be the best version of yourself, beautiful things can happen. I believe we are given dreams and being able to pursue them when the time is right is magic.

Our shop became a reality very quickly, but that was after years of hard work learning and growing until we were ready to take on this new journey. We are still learning and growing every day, and we have to be willing adapt and realize that success comes in waves.
