Meet David Lesinski

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Lesinski.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was having a rough summer in 2016. My relationship was not going well and I was burned out in my career. Things seemed to be falling apart and I felt lost.I decided to get some therapy and landed in the office of a spiritual counselor many of my friends were raving about. It turns out she’s somewhat intuitive because one of the first things she said to me was, “You should start painting.”

Now you have to understand that I’d never painted a day in my life. In fact, at that time I’d have said I’m not artistic at all. So I ignored her. I did everything else on the list of homework except paint. I mean, what’s the point? I can’t paint. The next time I saw her she said it again. Again I ignored. Finally, in our 3rd session she looked at me and said, “David, if you don’t start painting I’m not going to see you anymore!” I finally heard her.

The next weekend I went to Michaels and bought paint, a 36x36in canvas and some paints. I started painting and something magic happened. It turns out I could paint!. Three months later I held my first art show at my home in Encinitas and sold 5 pieces. I couldn’t believe it. By the end of 2017 (12 months later) I had held 5 art shows, shown my work in 3 galleries, published an art and poetry book and sold 56 paintings. Most recently I was honored as one of San Diego’s 50 artists to watch. I’m still shocked by it all.

Please tell us about your art.
I’m a painter and a poet. I paint on canvas and typically use acrylic and oil paints.

I’m inspired by the deeper levels and layers of the human being; the emotions, sensations and feelings going on beneath the surface. I believe that these deeper aspects of people is what drives their daily habits, routines and behaviors. I’ve spent many years diving into the depths of my own being and I draw on that depth and experience to create Paintings for the Soul.

Paintings for the Soul are more than just beautiful pieces of abstract art. They’re multilayered paintings energized with an intention to heal and grow. Just as you’re multi-layered, so are these paintings. Each painting couples with a poem that speaks to the theme of the painting. Some theme examples are; self-expression, self-love, abundance and connection with something greater.

As I paint I take pictures of these layers and provide these pictures to you, along with a copy of the poem, when purchased. I’ve enjoyed hearing many touching stories about how these paintings and poems have impacted the buyer.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
You can make your art a priority without quitting your day job. Use a planner to schedule in time to dedicate to your art. Allow the financial stability of your day job to support your art until you sell enough art and can make an easy decision to do art full time. For some people, working one or two part time jobs as they build their art career works too. Don’t feel like you have to make 100% of your income from your art until it naturally grows to that level.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
The best way to see my art is to go to You can also call me to schedule an in home viewing my in stock art pieces. The best way to support my work is to purchase the one that speaks to you. Make sure to read the poem too!
