Meet Dawn Celapino of Leash Your Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawn Celapino.

Dawn , please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started Leash Your Fitness in 2009 because I did not want to leave my dog, Jack when I went to work and to work out. I was doing corporate and personal fitness at the time. I quit all of my corporate jobs and moved most of my clients outside. Most of my clients had dogs so I started incorporating them into their workouts and they loved it. We started with one Sunday boot camp style class and as I wanted to go on adventures, I just took everyone with me. Now we do: hiking, camping, kayaking, SUPing, Trail running, Dog Yoga and workout classes.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, we are one of the pioneers in this business so we kind of made things up as we went. One of the challenges that we face is when to have classes since people have to go home and get their dogs. Plus, we move the classes around to showcase our beautiful city so trying to find a perfect area is also a struggle. Getting people to commit to coming on a regular basis is also tough. But when they do, they have fun and get a great workout!

Leash Your Fitness – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our business is working out WITH your dog. There is no other company in San Diego that has the business plan that we do. We do not discriminate on any dog breeds and we encourage all fitness levels to attend. All of our classes and events are outdoors so we do not have a brick and mortar facility. I am so proud of all of results both the people and the dogs get. I am also proud of the family that we have created. Everyone helps each other in so many ways!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success by the smiles that I see on the faces of the people that come to our classes and events. It makes me so happy!
