Meet Deena Von Yokes of Studio Savvy Salon Services in Rancho Santa Fe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deena Von Yokes.

Deena, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was lucky enough to know my calling at a young age. While kids my age were going through the motions of their summer jobs, I was in my mother’s salon, excited and engaged in the art of beauty and style. I wasted no time in learning the ins and outs of running a business, knowing that my life’s path was already well underway.

From the beginning, I laid the foundation of Studio Savvy with dogged work ethic and top-notch training focusing on skill and technique. I get such a sense of pride and joy when I see the Studio Savvy Glam Squad provide service with such precision and professionalism. But that is not only what makes Studio Savvy unique.

With a constant compulsion (call it an obsession) to make things more beautiful, I could not wait to reach the point where I could release my creativity and see the beauty that transpired. Hair is an art form, ready for a creative hand to make something amazing. I approach it as an artist would, ready to create something fresh and striking.

But I don’t want to keep it to myself! There is so much young talent in this industry, nouveau artists themselves, which are going to transform the way we approach hair and fashion. Elevating this new era of fashionistas is thrilling for me, both as a mentor and as an artist.

Over the years, the scope of my creations keeps expanding. I now find myself called upon to create so much more than just hair. From fashion shows to film production, I could not have imagined that my path would lead me where it has but I believe it is that same obsession that keeps me on my feet when many others would call it a day. There is nothing more gratifying than making people happy and beautiful!

Being raised in the fashion business, I didn’t come from a privilege background which I think made me more driven to do great things with that spirit I made a discussion at a young age that I was going to be the best to in returns help others to be their best. I’m proud to have trained and educated many people to have a career not just a job. Nothing is more gratifying to see people become successful. I learned money wasn’t the only to give back you can make a difference with your time and talent. Now we all give back through fashion!

As an educator, I am constantly collecting industry-leading techniques to implement into my programs. But the idea behind our #FashionQuest to London’s Fashion Week was more of a reconnaissance to absorb London’s edgy style and bring it back to San Diego where I coordinate multiple fashion shows.

I’ve been a San Diego business owner for over a decade, photographing the full gamut of fashion and style for local and national publications. I’ve worked with some of the best stylists in Southern California, my studio having been graced by Next Top Models and amazing local designers. This entitles me to a little hubris, right?

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Yes, I was a single mom and worked hard to build a future for my two boys at the time. Now remarried and had my third son. I now have all the family support from my 4 men in my life…

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Studio Savvy Salon Services – what should we know?
I’m a Redken artist and educator, and our top thing we specialize in is hair color.

Also, we are the fashion experts for the hat contest and the fashion contact at the Del Mar Races along with I am the news media spokesperson for all the networks covering all the fashion

Instructor, Master Stylist, Master Colorist & Founder of the Von Savvy Academy, Deena was raised in a salon, has worked in salons all her life, and has studied internationally under salon royalty.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I now have my dream team, eight stylists that I personally trained in my color and cutting methods.
