Meet Dennis-Michael Broussard of Silk Road Productions in Mission Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennis-Michael Broussard.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Dennis-Michael. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Originally hailing from New Orleans, I relocated to San Diego to pursue graduate school aspirations. During my time in my graduate programs, I created Silk Road Productions as a side project, creating art shows and fund raisers for causes I believed in. I since evolved Silk Road from a side project to a sought-after, full-service event production firm, one through which I have created a multitude of acclaimed special events and have been hired to produce successful fund raisers for numerous non-profit organizations.

My team has created events that have won awards and we have been hired/recruited by the San Diego Padres, the San Diego County Fair, SeaWorld and other organizations. I’ve since used this platform to promote my humanitarian efforts around the world

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not a smooth road. It was a long and hard struggle to turn this into a profitable way to make a living. I forwent my income potential to build something and it took a long time to build a clientele that could support me financially. I made a lot of very risky ventures and not all of them paid off. Some risks put me further into a hole that slowed down my progress – but everything was a learning process and tool. In the beginning, many mentors and people I looked up to in the community were being very discouraging for some of the projects I wanted to do – many telling me “it can’t be done” or “no one will support you.” No one tells me anything like that anymore.

Please tell us about Silk Road Productions.
Silk Road Productions is a premier, Southern California-based event management and production team that has been recognized by the United States Congress, the State of California, the County of San Diego and the City of San Diego for their events and for their service to enhancing and educating the communities in San Diego.

A full service event production firm, Silk Road Productions works with private entities, corporations and non-profits to make their events flow seamlessly, while ensuring event and organizational goals are achieved.

Most proud of? A couple of things – creating memorable events and experiences in the community or for organizations whose causes we believe in…And secondly, for the humanitarian efforts I have been able to do because of the work I do in Silk Road Productions.

What sets us apart – we’re very different from many in the event industry. As event producers, we are involved in the creative decision making process. We aren’t just a hired gun to execute, but we contribute to the entire process from inception to execution.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I grew up in the Philippines and Guam and did not move to the United States until I was 12. Growing up outside of the continental US and in another country was quite the experience, which has given me a unique perspective on things. My father being in the US Navy, we went to live with his mother (my grandmother) in New Orleans and my life changed pretty drastically.
