Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Mario Mancini.
Dr. Mario, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always had an affinity towards the study of the East, even as early as 6 years old. At that time I was intrigued by the Chinese martial arts and began my studies. Studying the arts allowed me to appreciate the level of depth this culture went through to create not only an art of combat but also within it, a medical system that spans over 3,000 years with the primary intention to produce vitality.
At 20 years old and still studying the martial arts, I decided to go deeper. I moved from New Jersey to San Diego, California to not only begin my studies of Chinese medicine/Acupuncture but also take it to an entirely new level with the martial arts. In my 20’s, while studying the medicine, I began to train and compete in full contact fighting at national, international, and world levels.
This gave me a firsthand experience of being on both sides of the medical care; studying conditions, specifically traumas and the impact of high stress on health on one side, and experiencing ongoing traumas and the stress of training and fighting in the ring on the other side. What I didn’t realize was that the experiences I had on the competitive side allowed me to gain insight and appreciation for the injured patients I would be seeing and the psychological stress that came with it.
Has it been a smooth road?
I see the struggles as opportunities to fine tune my skills! I realized early on that I didn’t have the training or language needed to clearly communicate with the medical community how powerful acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is in the areas of pain management. Therefore one of the more notable struggles has been running a full-time Acupuncture practice while simultaneously getting my doctorate.
